Cowboy Bebop has one of the strongest and most exciting soundtracks ever recorded, wildly ecclectic and yet strangely cohesive. This was the first release from the series, but the full OST actually consists of four LPs (Cowboy Bebop, No Disc, Blue, and Future Blues)and three EPs (Vitaminless, Ask DNA, and Cowgirl Ed), over five hours of material recorded by teams in Japan, New York, and Paris under the auspices of composer Yoko Kanno. I'd definitely recommend pursuing more.

Man. I don't know why, but Space Lion is one of those songs you don't listen to much, but when you do, it hits hard. It's the musical equivalent to the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Yooo, the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack is iconic

Been listening to this album for almoat 20yrs and i still get excited when it comes up on shuffle.

I love this guys reactions, he never pauses or interrupts the music and lets himself and everyone else enjoy it first.

So Rain has two versions, and the one from the actual anime is sung by Mai Yamane. Was actually a bit jarring to hear the male fronted vocals at first, but Steve Conte's amazing performance won me over as you can imagine. Still think I prefer the Mai Yamane version , and it's definitely worth checking out, though if I'm making recommendations, I'd say just watch the show because in context the music for Cowboy Bebop is even better.

What she does amazingly is writing THEMES and HOOKS... she takes one simple melodic or structural idea and then just stretches that one idea to it's ultimate potential... but they're very very GOOD ideas, so they can last over that whole song. In Cosmos you hear her writing multi part, quite complex theme as a motif... and that melody will be repeated again and again over the course of the series in different clothes, but representing specific thing.

kudos for not interrupting tank!, especially mid sax solo so many commit this sin, the groove must ring out until it is finished!

For your anime opening reactions, I want to put Wolf Rain's Stray opening out there. Not many people react to it. It's a depressing anime to watch but the animation is gorgeous and I love the opening song.

re: the chat question of cowboys being associated with harmonica and guitar: a lot of American folk music throughout the 1800s tended to get a lot of play on guitar, harmonica - really anything that was reasonably portable. It kinda seems like a given mental image, but the idea of a cowboy sitting around a campfire with a guitar or harmonica isn't far off from the reality of things. The banjo also gets some of this same stereotype because it was also a fairly portable instrument. All throughout the 1800s settlers from the Eastern U.S. moved westward, and portable instruments - particularly ones easier to learn such as the harmonica - came with them as a form of entertainment. The intermingling of European immigrants from the East and the local Mexican and Spanish cultures also lent to the development of the Norteño styles of music in the southwestern U.S. and northern Mexico. After the Civil War, some of these instruments - like guitar and harmonica - would also become associated with African American folk songs due to their popularity and relative availability throughout the U.S., and became staple instruments in early blues (and then someone invented an amplifier for guitars, and helped along the evolution of blues into rock and roll!) Because these instruments became so strongly associated with that time period and the mid- and south-western U.S., it would have been a bit silly not to use them in American Western films and media - even if Blues or Norteño or other new styles might have been anachronistic. They're very representative of the musical 'spirit' of the Wild West.

The director/ creator (shinichiro watanabe) made the composer (yoko kanno) tour america and attend different jazz shows all around the country before he let her create the soundtrack. He wanted her to bring a truly authentic American jazz sound to the ost …….absolute brilliance

Now you need to watch the show. It's a perfect fit for the soundtrack.

You definitely need to check out the composer's other works. Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) also has a jazz-inspired soundtrack, just a different flavor. And it is largely covers of existing classics. But my absolute favorite is definitely Terror in Resonance (Zankyou no Terror). Every song original, every song a banger, and it features some of the weirdest soundscapes. From a very obvious Sigur Rós influence, to the more debatable (but still clear IMO) Hans Zimmer style.

Please do JoJo’s bizarre adventure next, the music is so good and a lot of fun to listen to. Gets you into the moment for what’s happening in the show.

cowboy bebop is an icon of anime music. there's a lot of stigma, especially in the western world, against music in modern media and it's always refreshing to see these great arrangements be recognized and appreciated :) Attack On Titan is another anime with a mind-blowing soundtrack - although very different from this one - if you want something else to consider checking out in the future

There is also a female vocal version of _Rain_ that was actually on the show, but this male version is my _absolute favorite_ on the soundtrack. But I also love _Bad Dog No Biscuits_ just for being their _SKA!_ song.

There are two soundtracks that I think would be really interesting to analyze. The first is the OneShot OST. It has a really heavy feel, and I'd love to see you analyze it. The second is the Lisa soundtrack. It has some of the most bizarre sounding music in any OST ever, and it's just kind of insane overall.

i was a big fan of Tank...when I was 14. Had it on every burned CD and mp3 player for a couple years. gotten over it haven't gotten over that either, it's not on my bebop playlist. it was a good song but i over-indulged, like your friend who can't do flavored vodka.

I'd love to see you react to some of the Dragon Quest OSTs. Obviously not all of them but it might be interesting to listen to a variety to get a sense of how the music evolved with the series.

An OST makes more sens if you watch the anime and understand the deep meaning of the story whitch is telling to you. So you need to watch the animation series and films.

I still remember the scene wheb space lion plays. It the one where Ed leaves the Bebop forever, she scawled a goodbye message on the deck of the bebop, and spike is standing on the inside smoking a cigarette reading it. I haven't watched Cowboy Bebop in over a decade, and still remember that scene.

maybe no one of here rebembers this game but could you try listening *earthbound/mother 2* ost.? the game is heavily weird. but have a very HIT music. changing easily the entire enviroment with several musics a lot of enemies have their themes. bosses too.
