Pete calls the wringing hands equal and opposite forces. A benefit is that is prevents closing the club face during the swing.

It is an inward twist according to Cowan , and he frames is as how the forearms should work in the downswing

Great video, im halfway there! as years ago watched a lydia ko video(not on grip!) to see how a little girl gould hit it so well.Noticed she literally wrapped her hands around the grip, hard to describe but imagine linking hands together palm up then wrapping them round the grip like squeezing a towel! helped get me down to 5hcp at 63, hoping this video will get me lower!

so dont just clap hands on grip, clap then wrap! and squeeze the towel

..I have experimented with this a bit, if the twist (very slight) due to the right hand is say 30% anti-clockwise then I make sure the twist from the left hand is 30% clockwise to oppose or balance it. For me this helps a lot with putting to maintain quiet and neutral hands and I sink more putts. For my next trick I’m currently trying the same with all other clubs to keep the hands working together and neutral from a club shaft twist perspective. I’ve found my backswing feels completely different when I do this. It feels more rounded and free. It’ll take time to adjust though but I think it’s probably correct, try it but be warned your first few shots won’t be pretty

After watching this video I've been out in the garden hitting practice balls with this method. Have not had a single bad contact in three sessions. And I'm normally about 50% good contacts at best. Maybe I'm just having a good day, but I doubt it. Thanks Russ, and Pete of course.

Russ - can you do a video on forearm rotation? - best practices with it, better impact, more yards, etc

Ive improved by using my forearms(esp inner right) early but softly, to get control of the club, i've done this naturally in every other racquet/.bat sport ive been good at! But in golf we listen to stupid theories passive arms,1 piece takeaway, body swings arms etc that destroys our natural sporting abilities and ends up with our sporting brain pannaking and over compensating with other stupid thoughts and moves

Good stuff but the grip is not Cowen's original idea - American teachers Harry Obitz and Dick Farley taught this 'towel ringing' grip concept in their book 'Six days to better golf' many years ago .

Sorry to "steal your thunder" in my comments a few days ago. Still, "wringing out the towel" is one of the best tips ever.

This also stops you rolling your wrist open and tugging your club inside before you’ve even started turning. My issue!!!

I swing as hard as I can to hit my 7 iron 150 yards, but mostly only goes 130 on a good strike, 120 fat. Then I'm blocked by the trees, gotta hit it low, just 100, to get a good angle for my wedge into the green. So I take a 1/4 swing with my 7 iron, no effort, clean strike, easy, it goes 120 into the hedge down the road!!! What is going on?

I'm a RH golfer. What should I be doing with my left thumb? It's hard to relax it when it's snug into my right palm. I feel myself pressing my left thumb against the grip, maybe a little too much. Solution?

Watched Cowan talk about wringing the towel years ago and gave it a go multiple times. After the honeymoon period wears off, it just adds another variable to contend with, such as which hand is the dominant hand therefore it applies more pressure, which throws things off balance, which creates more inconsistency........on and on.......doesnt work in the long run.....which is why I think we dont see any major success from his pro students.....

I watched Pete Cowan’s grip advice recently: the hands are working in opposition against one another to stabilise the club face so it neither opens nor closes through impact. I’m not it needs to be especially forcible, just an equal amount with each hand… Doe’s it work…?

Your thumbnails shows to twist hands inwards, and you explain it as if we should twist outwards, please clarify because it makes a HUGE difference

Makes it up ... as he goes along... Perfect definition of original thought and practice. PC does have a LOT of quirky stuff out there, but unlike many teachers he seems to evolve as the years go on... what’s not to like about that?

I feel like an idiot. I have seen pete Cowen talk about this multiple times and had really been trying to implement it into my swing. However, I have been "wringing the towel" in an inward rotation, and it's turned my draw into a push fade and my hands into an aching mess😂

Well i did this too, but there i would say blame the teacher for not being clear enough.

And also the picture in the thumbnail shows an inward twist, so this is also very weird
