The plant you're thinking of is called a pitcher plant. It attracts bugs with sweet nectar at the bottom of its pitcher and close their trap leaf on them. The bugs are then digested through various means depending on the type of pitcher plant. Some flood the pitcher with enzymes that drown and break down the bugs, some rely on bacteria to break down the drowned bugs, and then others have a symbiotic relationship with certain larvae that eat the bugs and then the plant feeds on the larvas' excreta. There's even 1 variety that attracts Tree Shrews with its nectar and the shrew then defecates in the pitcher and the plant feeds on the feces.

I love how much they nailed both 80’s Miyazaki’s art style and ecologic morality concerns. It’s a refreshing approach to the genre, especially in the current era of copy-paste grid “city builders” that are all the same bland gameplay with slightly different wallpaper.

This definitely feels like a city builder for people who prefer long term planning, thinking critically about what is best for in the future, especially with how districts go. I feel when the full release hits, it would certainly benefit from a pre-plan mode

I played it during the next fest, the core of the game is great. But dear lord did it need some QoL. The people would starve themselves to death to build literally anything and only feed themselves if you are unable to occupy every single worker when building. This is because nobody transports food and water to the cellars, you can mitigate the problem by giving the celler priority but it's only a bad aid. The fact there were no renewable sources of stone and you only refund 50% when demolishing stuff made a lot of people avoid it after getting unable to progress the tutorial from overbuilding. There were plenty of other things too, but do not let that distract you from what a gem this could become with ....ALOT lets be real ? .... Polish and work.
