Personally, I've always felt Static Shock had too much of the "trying to be 90's cool" feel. Especially since it was part of the WB block where everything was trying to appeal to kids (even though it didn't need to). John Stewart Green Lantern though, I've always thought he was more interesting than Hal Jordan or Kyle... I forget his last name.

Rumors are the next gen of XMen will be young like first class so we’ll definitely get another run at Storm, possibly wed her to TChalla Jr once they age him up some. Storm and Gentle would be nice additions to the next Black Panther entry as they roll out mutants too. Either way I want to see the Dawn of X/X-Men Red rosters so we get both the 90s crew and as many POC as possible.

The history of Black Lightning and Black Vulcan is interesting: When Hanna Barbera was making the Superfriends cartoon they wanted to use BL but they would have to pay royalties to the creator so in order to save money they made Black Vulcan. A similar thing happened again in the early '00s on Static Shock when he met an electric black superhero from the '70s named Soul Power. Black Lightning also has two daughters who are electric and super. As a result of one guy there are 5 electric black supers, two of them being legally distinct ripoffs.

Missed out on mentioning that Black Panther was the first black superhero to have his own self-titled book, that Storm was the first black superhero to lead a superhero team, and that there were two black heroes in mainstream comics that predate Black Panther: Jackie Johnson in DC's Easy Company and Gabe Jones in Marvel's Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandoes (both were military servicemen in integrated units of specialists (Easy Company and the Howling Commandoes) in stories set in World War Two).

One minor correction. Storm wasn't a priestess, when first introduced, she was worshipped as a goddess. EDIT= I do understand how some may get the info confused as Ororo Munroe aka Storm is the daughter of a priestess. fun facts= 1. Storm was actually born in the USA to an American father David, and Kenyan Mother N'Dare. 2. David was a photographer and the family was visiting Egypt when local fighters bombed the area. This killed David & N'Dare and left Ororo buried in rubble. This left young Ororo with claustrophobia. 3. Ororo grew up as a thief in the streets of Egypt (think city was Cairo but could be wrong) 4. as a teen she traveled south to Kenya and as her powers awakened, that's when tribes began to worship her.

This is my favorite story. In 1989, when McDuffie was an editor at Marvel Comics, he wrote a biting, satirical pitch that has since become industry legend. In his pitch, McDuffie points out that 25% of African-American superheroes appearing in the Marvel Universe over the last year have had skateboard-based superpowers or fighting styles, and proposes a new team to take advantage of this and other equivalently exciting trends, featuring four black guys on skateboards.

Lion Man... Cat themed superhero in Africa protecting a valuable ore? I do have to wonder how much Black Panther was "inspired" by this. As a geek, I am required by nature to point out... John Stewart (the GL, not the former Daily Show host) existed LONG before the modern trend of black replacement heroes. (My favorite of which is Dr John Irons, btw.) But then, given the GL corps has had members that are a gas (Flodo Span) An Equation (Dkrtzy Rrr) A Smallpox Virus Variant (Leezle Pon) and a planet (Mogo)... I don't think a person of a different skin color than the most popular GL is much of a stretch. Among Bruce Wayne's many temp Batman replacements is Timothy "Jace" Fox. He's the son of Lucius Fox, so he probably is heir to some generational wealth, even if his dad was the first generation.

And while there has not been a black Bruce Wayne per say there have been three characters to either join the Bat-family (Batman's supporting cast of characters) and as of very recently take up the mantle entirely, those characters being: Duke Thomas (The Signal, sidekick to Batman and eventually a hero in his own right), Luke Fox (Batwing, a character who uses Waynetech to create a mechanized Batsuit to fight crime in Gotham), and Jace Fox who has taken up the mantle of Batman (technically in an alternate timeline to the main DC universe but still with his own solo comic book series and being 100% Batman)
