Brendan Shanahan Press Conference on Kyle Dubas out as GM

Kyle Dubas is out as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The team said Friday it is “parting ways” with the 37-year-old, whose contract was set to expire June 30.
“I would like to thank Kyle for his unwavering dedication over these last nine seasons with the organization, including his last five as general manager,” Leafs president Brendan Shanahan said in a statement. “Kyle fostered a great culture within our dressing room and staff, and consistently pushed to make our team better season over season.”

As a sports fan, it was pretty refreshing to get alot of details and honesty (imo) from Shanny. But I felt like he threw Dubas under the bus.

I’m no Leaf fan, but heard this was a good presser. Either Shany is not saying something or Dubas wanted way more money because the Leafs did not want to extend him while he still had 1 year left. How could Dubas not understand nothing is guaranteed and seems like he took some offence towards the Leafs. Bad situation Leaf fans.

Players like Shanny used to be with the Wings in their hayday are what the Leafs are going to need to work into their organisation before they can really turn the corner and developed the "culture" where it will need to go to make them the real winners that fans, players and the city of Toronto are demanding after all of these years. I'm confident that this can be done without a total overhaul. What they seem to lack lack are players like the Tkachuk brothers. Heart and soul and tough as nails. They seem to fill the bill for what the NHL will be morphing into in the coming years. The league, despite what powerful owners and league officials want is and will remain a contact sport, including fighting when necessary. We'll see what they do and what changes are made to the team amd front office. It's going to be interesting watching the changes unfold for next season, that's for sure.

"Heart and soul and tough as nails." Exactly. Shanny saw that he didn't have that in his GM so he moved on. Stevey Y saw the same thing, that the Wings lacked enough of those types of players in Ottawa just before the trade deadline so he started trading for assets. Both of these men know what it takes. You can see the toll the stress is taking on Shanny too. 1 team out of 32 wins the Cup. Each team has about a 3% chance. It is such a grind.

What a lame explanation. Sounds like Shanahan made an emotional decision because Dubas was just being honest about needing to talk things over with his family.

No contact from Kyle after speaking to Kyle’s agent about the contract, but later Kyle sends and email saying he wants to be GM. If he still wanted to be GM that bad after all that, he should have picked up the phone.

Dubas will do like many others before him, players especially; he’ll be a massive success elsewhere! Look at Hyman for example. Playing phenomenal with Oilers.

Kyle Dubas Did not say he didn’t want the Leaf GM job, what he said was I’m very passionate of my job throwing the water was in a moment caught on camara especially on Canadian media Where did Kyle ever suggest he didn’t want to continue as Leaf GM?

Kyle and his agent took a risk , not wanting to sign contract till after Playoffs. They were optimist they would go far , and that will mean more money for them. The plan backfired…

Nice move shanny, informing your GM prior to this last season that he wont be coming back, no wonder Dubbie was tossing our first and second rounders for the next 3 years like he was handing out halloween candy to go all in..effectively denting our future to win a round..what a dann clown car this orginization has become..so sick of it ..fire them all
