Medical Coding review on the integumentary system. This would correlate with chapter 7 in the AAPC CPC curriculum. I cover the overview of CPT and ICD-10-CM codes, a smidge of skin anatomy, and then cover some of the more complicated or commonly-tested concepts.
* Note, officially the sequencing of the closure question should have the complex listed prior to the intermediate.
This is not a full course, but a review for students studying for the CPC or CCS-P.

Thank you so much. I have shared this with my class mates. It help a lot when you have someone explaining it while showing you how to do it and what not to do. We are currently online for the last term before the exam. We took 2 classes over the summer about coding how to do it but it is all online with no live person video. This term is suppose to break down CPT and the order they go in plus the modifier. We are on chapter 7 and several of us were struggling. I showed them your video.

The teacher which are 2 are doing their best. One teacher just decided to move down to our state and come in on Thursday. This is a first time. But my guess is, she going to be overwelmned with students asking to see her on Thursday. She does have a discussion up if we have any questions. Honestly, it does not help that much if you do not have a lecture to ask questions about or if you are stumbling across the book very confuse about the rules.

What an awesome tutorial, Thanks sister for all the time you invested in this training, but I have some questions to ask (1) CAN MODIFIERS BE ADDED TO ADD ON CODES? OR IS ONLY MODIFIER 51 THAT WE CAN'T ADD ON ADD-ON CODES? (2) IN THE LAST EXAMPLE ON INTERMEDIATE REPAIR, CODE 12031 SAYS (EXCLUDING HANDS AND FEET), WHY DO WILL CODE 12032 INSTEAD OF 12042. WAIT TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON MA
@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding 3 жыл бұрын
Modifier 51 never goes on an add-on code. We use 12032 because it's on the arm, which is an extremity. 12042 is for hands and feet. This was not on the hand.

So if I use mainly my CPT book and ICD-10, when do I use my HCPCS book? Both during the test and real life please
@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding 4 ай бұрын
In medical coding, the HCPCS book is utilized alongside the CPT and ICD-10 codes for a comprehensive approach to documenting healthcare services, diagnoses, and procedures. While CPT codes describe medical, surgical, and diagnostic services and ICD-10 codes categorize diseases and health conditions, HCPCS Level II codes are specifically employed for billing items and services not covered by CPT codes, such as durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and non-physician services. For the CPC exam there are 3 questions of the 100 that pertain to HCPCS.

is there a video for breaking down why the numbers are what they are? I mean is there a rhyme and reason that certain numbers are assigned? Or is it just someone decided certain letters go here and we’re suppose to memorize it?? All the letters and stuff are so overwhelming I’m just wanting to make sense of them.

There is a method to the madness yes, as illustrated by this graphic: blog.practo.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Anatomy-of-an-ICD-10-code.png But there's no need to memorize codes. You'll always have access to the books, even for testing.

@ContempoCoding
@ContempoCoding 2 жыл бұрын
You are still permitted to use the 2021 book but may be at a disadvantage due to code changes. The exam will be based on 2022 codes starting January 1. I would direct you to the guidance provided by the AAPC: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? Since the code sets for each coding book are updated every year, it’s essential for coders to have the current year’s books/manuals to ensure accurate performance. Reporting wrong codes can lead to denied claim submissions and substantial penalization. It’s clearly very important to get an education on the annual code set updates and to obtain new code books every year. All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets. Examinees using their second attempt in the next calendar year will not be permitted to take the previous year's exam. Note: Please make sure you are now using ICD-10 CM or ICD-10 PCS when needed."

Split-thickness autograft, trunk, arms, legs; first 100 sq cm or less, *OR* 1% of body area of infants and children (except 15050) The 1% body area only pertains to measurements for infants and children. For adults you go by square cm.

The definition of 15100 states, "This excision and placement is for the first 100 cm2 or less OR one percent of the body area of an infant or child." So for adults we go be square cm, for peds it's the percentage. This is not a peds-only code.
