Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) combines chest compressions with ventilations to assist a casualty who is unresponsive and not breathing or breathing ineffectively. Studies show that CPR followed by defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest can dramatically improve the survival rate.
