Precision torque vs knuckle saver. Why do they make two different regular 12 point box combo wrenches? Aside from one being tiawan and one usa madr

Great content CP A high quality set of wrenches is one of the last things I still need. I have a set of Blue Point ratcheting wrenches and it’s a decent set, but I really want a top tier one. Good to see so many brands in one spot with tons of time on them to help me make an informed decision. They’re a lot of money so this helps big time.

I love my blue point ratchet wrenches. I had a set of snap-on flank drive plus ratchet wrenches, they were beautiful, but the open end would always gouge up the fastener. Not ideal for wrenching on Harleys. I traded them in for the blue point, which goes down to 5/16", and like $200 less for the set, and they're bullet proof, couldn't be happier.

I almost went with the FDX and the knuckle savers. But being low on funds due to being a full time student I bought the precision torques in metric and the Matco in sae. Wish I would’ve bought the precision torque in sae also but I’m not gonna buy them when I already have decent sae wrenches. Thanks for these vids my guy.

I have those Mountain wrenches and can't believe I went my whole life without them. I was a little skeptical of the spline drive but so far I really like it. They can be a little harder to get into a fastener all the way, but I kind of like that because they are a more precise fit than my 12 point stuff. Mine haven't damaged or marred anything and have worked on some rusted stuff. They can stick a little after torquing, but so far 99% of the time they have been awesome.

i purchased both full sets of the flank drive plus reversible ratcheting and i must say they are great. These are my first and only set of wrenches so i said why not go with the ratcheting . Now that its been a couple months i wish i wouldve skipped the ratcheting aspect on a regular wrench . i see that there may be times where the slimmer standard box end would be the better option and when holding on to a backside spinner not having to always play with the reverse lever to get it in the right direction . I shoudlve went with plain old snap on flank drive plus non ratcheting as my first set, and then i couldve went with a flex head for my ratcheting option like the mac PTs, where i have flex head ratcheting and an open end that wont mar any fasteners. Thinking to just keep the snap ons i have and add a set of mac knuckle savers and some mountains for my flex option

My first set of wrenches were Snap-On Flank Drive. Working in the swimming pool industry I don’t see a lot of steel, I see all soft metals, stainless steel, brass, bronze and aluminum. I need a tool that is going to bite into that to remove it and I don’t care what it looks like when I’m done. I also like Snap-On because it resists the chlorinated water that I work in, I have yet to have a Snap-On tool rust. My old Matco tools holds up really well. I think the other reason I have so much Snap-On is I can always find a dealer, Mac and Matco are hit and miss. I just ordered a set of SK stubby wrenches and swivel impacts, I’m excited to see how they perform.

CP, when I gave my old Husky tools to the shop, I kept a few items. My single drawer flip lid cart, the black 100 tooth long 3/8 ratchet and the Crescent made Spline Drive Wrenches. I want to say they are 8-19 and 5/16 - 7/8 or something close. There’s nothing better than winning the fight against that old rusty pump or fan mount with a $2 wrench. Obviously the old hardware goes in the trash and usually gets replaced with stainless (Which sucks but that’s a topic for another time). Spline drive has its place, I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on it but it is necessary whenever you encounter rust. I like 6 points as well. Anyone who works in a shop specializing in German cars probably has a few Snap On or Mac double box 6 point long handle wrenches to deal with soft drain plugs. I had I believe a 14/17 that got used several times a day.

very valid points on the 6 and 12 point box ends. 12 points are nice for the clean fastners. especially it tighter space. But living in the rust belt, them 6 points come super handy. not as much options as far as placement but wont round the heads with em as much as a 12 point would up here. Down south is awesome to use 12 points. but up here is another story.

Still a great American made wrench. Also have the proto USA made ratcheting version of the Mac precision torque. Thanks for the video. Just a heads up for guys looking to replace missing wrenches or just buying extra for the house. There’s a seller on EBay that is selling various sizes of Armstrong and KD wrenches for very good prices. If you’ve ever held a USA made Matco wrench then you’ve held an Armstrong. All USA made and he’ll combine shipping on more than one item. I’ve purchased several and they are indeed the same as older Matco wrenches. They even have the same maker’s dating mark on them. I think the seller is cripedistributing.

Here's something you may not have anticipated CP, I'm a cummins tech in South Florida and all I see is rusty RVs and trucks because people are either long haul drivers who drive in the rust belt regularly or they're from every other state that does have road salt and they come vacation here. They get services when they get here and they get services before they leave. Just because we don't have road salt here doesn't mean we don't deal with it, it unfortunately attracts people from the rusty areas.

With the 6 point 12 point argument, on a ratcheting wrench with a 6 point, if you can't get it on, you can always turn the mechanism manually and then refit on the bolt. To be honest, 90% of ratcheting wrenches should be 6 point, the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

1/2” is actually 12.7mm & 13mm is like 33/64”. So that could account for the slop in the 13mm snap on & that fastener which is most likely a 1/2” bolt. That’s why SAE & metric tools are both necessary to have if you don’t want to strip or round off fasteners. You can get by with using just one set but you’re more likely to fuck shit up
