New Year's Day 2024, time to do a little fishing! Today was action packed with mostly short fish but I did manage to catch plenty for the table. Mud Crabs are no problem to catch for bait this time of year and the fish were more than cooperative. Gently bust the claws with a wood block and use them for bait to extend your fishing time. Tautog are one of my favorite fish to catch and one of the best eating fish in the ocean. Get out there and be somebody!

Fresh bait matters. Catch Mud Crabs under "stuff", below the high tide line (Wear Gloves, oyster cuts are nasty). The purple crabs with spots and striped legs are stone crabs and are illegal to possess.

Great video as usual . I have been miss seeing your videos . I have fished the area several times last year. I never get on the fish like you do. I have great bait mud crabs , sand fleas, and sea urchins . I’ll keep trying to duplicate what you are doing. Tight lines my friend 😊

Nice to see you back big dog. Hey any direction on good places to find mud crabs? I usually go to the point on radio island but it's been a little harder to find em there lately.

Can you do a video on how you tie up to the pilings and bridges? And how you “beach” your boat to get to the mudcrabs.

Tautog is a cold water wrasse found along the Atlantic coast from NC north. They don't get very big down here, the big fish are found from Chesapeake Bay and up towards Maryland.

The combos I use are in the video description and are built for offshore jigging. I like them because they are light enough to hold all day and strong enough to get big fish up and away from the bridge. Fish with whatever you are comfortable using.
