I got a new old boat and try it out the last day of summer crabbing season. The Livingston dinghy is a staple of the PNW. With its dual hull, its incredibly stable!

What a blast. Blake takes essentially a kid's wading pool and turns it into a crab slaying machine!😅 Seriously though, I like the ring traps with the Livingston. Low profile and you don't have to do a lot of leaning over when pulling them.

I have had a few. The last one was a 12T. Had tall sides. And I had the 14 Olympian as well. Left once in the wind from the south shore of Hood Canal headed for Tahuya. Had to get crab pots out of the water for the two day closure. Stood that Olympian on its transom with so much lift from the wind. Went back, came back the next day.

Out of curiosity, why the decision to down-size the boat? A pro-tip: I have several cheap crab gauges and keep one tied to each of my crabbing devices when in storage. That way I always have a gauge when I go crabbing. I've played that game and lost one too many times.

Hey Blake, quick question, as thar boats of its smaller stature, what's the registration process like? I just sold my 17' Bayliner to look for a smaller 9-10' alum boat and I'm wondering what the requirements are.
@WAFishQuest3 ай бұрын
Congrats on selling the boat! So long as the motor is under 10 hp, there really aren't any. You don't have to license a boat that small. It's non-titled, just like owning a paddle kayak. I think you technically could if you felt like it, but there is no requirement to do so. As a vessel, I think you do need all the standard safety stuff though (like flares, sound making device). But I could even be wrong about that. Thanks for watching!
