Жыл бұрын

This is the recipe for Love's BBQ's famous BBQ beans. I did this recipe on my lonestargrillz.com/ pellet smoker, but in a pinch you can use a crock pot! Please find the recipe and instructions below.
30 oz PINTO beans (2 cans drained)
15 oz tomato puree (I used Hunts)
1.5 cups Brown Sugar (I used Organic)
1 Tsp Salt
½ Tsp Garlic Powder
½ Tsp Onion Powder
½ Tsp Black Pepper
¼ Tsp Nutmeg
¼ Tsp Cumin
1 Tbs Ground Rosemary (Amazon if you can't find it)
Mix this all up in a pot, then layer the top with about 1 pound of ground pork trimmings, and do not mix them in yet. Place it in your pit running at 225ºF (Love's used oak). After 3-4 hours, mix the trimmings into the beans. I did 3 hours. Let them cool, then put them in the fridge to "marinate". Heat up the beans the next day, and you will taste Love's Famous Beans just like they served up to hungry customers! Excess fat can be blotted up a bit if necessary, but the rendered pork fat is one of the secrets of this classic recipe!

Thank you for this Love's BBQ bean recipe. It is very good, but after using all the listed ingredients along with your instructions I thought it was missing that tang of vinegar. So I added a little apple cider vinegar and that made it taste as I remembered. I have been trying to copy the original Love's BBQ bean recipe for several years and before Love's closed. I used my wood smoker and added some BBQ beef brisket trimmings along with the chopped pork and fat. Love's BBQ beans always had some type of texture in with the beens so some of my recipe attempts included ground pickling spices. Think I will include that next time I do your recipe along with some apple cider vinegar.

You want some good beans? I made some smoked pinto beans in my Ugly Drum Smoker during a brisket smoke. I soaked the dried beans overnight in water, then rinsed and put into a foil tray and covered with water, plus a couple inches. Add seasonings to your particular taste - I always cube up some salt pork for my beans along with some chopped onions. Now, I have a double grate in my smoker, so I put the beans in the tray above the fire basket then put the brisket above the beans. All the drippings from the brisket go into the beans- which also means whatever rub you used gets carried into them. Whenever you check the brisket, check the water level in the beans and add as necessary. When the brisket hits your wrap temp - around 170 internal, cover the beans with foil as well - taste them, as they are probably done, but it doesn't hurt to let them bake more. This was a huge hit at a 4th of July family get together. There were no leftover beans, even though there was leftover brisket.
