Anybody in this Man's area available to Oxy-A or Tig weld? After all the how to and tool reviews he has done, which have saved us money, he deserves a helping hand.

Still holding up? I over torqued my drain plug on my transfer case because torque wrench didn't work. Trying the same method. Low pressure and thick oil so think it will be ok.

Hmmm I can't help but wonder if he dropped it when removing it.

Me too. He swears up and down he didn't do anything wrong. One reason I don't trust mechanics.

It is easier to take the engine ans tranny together on an 80. But he probably hit with something or shifted from. D to l without using the key. While taking it out.

Did you have the same crack

@@theotherguy3083 No, I went to the junkyard and pulled what looked like a perfect transferase for my 1999 suburban. Installed it and went to add fluid and it started leaking imidiatly, I located the leak, it was a hairline crack on the bottom of the case and extended to a larger one along the housing, what i learned here, is when pulling alluminum and cast parts from a wrecked car. Pay attention to the caseing, it also would have paid off if I added the fluid on the bench, then drained before install.

Did you end up getting it aluminum welded or did the quick steel work fine? Trying to decide on a fix for my crack
@theotherguy30834 жыл бұрын
I decided to just buy a replacement from the Junkyard for 250 bucks. There is no way you can fix it unless you get someone to weld it. By that time, you could just easily get a replacement.

The Other Guy a replacement cover only or the entire transfer case?

@@ChekeredFreak I ended up getting a new used TC

The Other Guy gotcha thanks for the reply. I just used JB weld. There’s a crack near the top by mi filler plug. It’s coming from the thread so I assume it was over-torqued. I’m hoping it does the job so I can avoid replacing the transfer case
@chadluczkowski24223 жыл бұрын
why wouldnt you just buy a new cover? Its like $80 for a brand new one...seems like too much fuckin around when you could just buy something new and do it the right way.

i've seen JB Weld hold pressure on a r-410a condensing unit... Homeowner said it worked fine for quite a few years before the compressor died! haha! i wouldn't break a sweat over it until it gives you another problem.

I have a crack in my transfer case I just found and came across this video! Could you tell me how well that stuff works and if it holds up well? Thanks a bunch
@theotherguy30834 жыл бұрын
It didn't work at all. Dont waist your time on these epoxy fixes. Have someone tig weld the crack.
@AndrewBrowner4 жыл бұрын
@@theotherguy3083 i think if you find a good epoxy designed for use with oil it might work, the jb weld he used might even work with proper prep like you did.. once jb welded the bottom of an aluminum oil pan together with a 5" web of cracks held up fine for life of the car, all in the cleaning and prep
@MinhBui-ni1by6 жыл бұрын
Looks like he musta over torqued that bolt putting it back on causing a hairline crack.... That totally sucks and I do not trust any mechanic either because they do not take care of our cars like we do....

my sequoia 2004 have the same issue but the transfer case doesn't have the triangle opening on the top , so I don't know how to remove it any info about it ?

The later first gen's tc aren't designed so that you can remove it like this.

Very true never trust a mechanic to work on your cars, trucks or suvs. If I can't fix the problem than I will take it to the dealership. When I pop my gas tank on my t100 because of the tie strap went under the truck while I was on the freeway and my dad took it to this small dealer on Belmont and they got this so call mechanic to change out my gas tank. He was able to remove and installed the new tank but he didn't tighten my fuel pump and other parts for the gas tank so I was burning gas within minutes. So I have to recheck his work and he did a very sloppy job. I have to redo everything over, and was pretty upset about it. Had to paid him $400 and redid everything myself, that's why I cannot trust any unlicensed mechanic besides the one I know and myself.

I don’t think is the mechanic you have to pay good money
