Craft Room Organization 2020| Upgrading My Paper Storage

It felt like it was time to upgrade my paper storage. For the last 15 years I've used some Cropper Hopper Paper Holders but they weren't as functional as I would like. If I'm going to upgrade my storage, then I also need to revisit what I have. Not so much a purge but a revamp of how I store some items to make it work for how I work.

Guess what I just put on my wishlist? I have the older style cropper hoppers too and they don’t fit well in my old Expedit shelf. I even ended up cutting them down to fit! I’m hoping the bins work better for me. I also like to pull the whole container over to my desk. I really like how your shelf turned out 😊

Thanks Jill. So far I’m loving them. The only thing to keep in mind is they are not as tall so a little less support. Most of mine are full so it’s not an issue but if they weren’t full you may say to add a piece of chipboard like you get with cardstock in the mail to support. That would be the only negative in my mind but adding the chipboard seems to work in the one or two bins that aren’t full. Just something to keep in mind. ~Melanie

Great plan for the paper. I spend wayyyyyy too much time searching for that beginning piece of paper for a layout.

You're so right. I have been using those cropper hopper bins for well over 20 years and they work great for display on the shelf but not great for pulling out and standing up. My paper is sorted basically how you ended up. I want to pull out the bins and bring to my desk to flip through. No Container Store by me but I already looked online for delivery. Now to measure and see how many I need and order. And YES it is a constant Domino Effect...but isn't that really part of the fun!!!

It kind of is part of the fun...I do actually enjoy going through my stash like this. I am blessed to have so much and this helps remind me what I have and I am often inspired after... just want to dig and start using it. ~Melanie

Your paper looks BEAUTIFUL, NEAT and ORGANIZED! WOW! I really like how you organized your patterned papers (florals, dots, stripes...). An added bonus to reorganizing my supplies is to rediscover what I have which triggers project ideas and reminds me I don't need to buying any new supplies. Good point about only purchasing the SMALL containers given the weight of paper. As always, TFS!

I really like the final results. It does look much neater. I am going to have to reorganize my paper. It is very difficult to get to. I like the way you micro organized the patterns. I am definitely going to copy some of your ideas. I don’t have the space, like you have, but having it organized will at least make it easy to know where to look. Thanks for the ideas. Great job.

That’s the key with organization isn’t it? To take an idea and make it work for you. Everyone’s space is different and everyone has their own process for creating. I’ve made the mistake of trying to organize a specific way because it looked pretty but functionally it just didn’t work for me. Hope what you took away helps . ~Melanie

Organizing and re-organizing paper is my other hobby. lol Your solution looks great! I hope it serves you well. I've considered getting those bins from the Container Store, but the tapered part makes me hesitate. I do like how your shelf looks.

Thanks Cilla. The taper is slight but it does impact overall storage capability...so if that is a concern it’s good to be hesitant. I love organizing too (and I’ve referred to it as my second hobby too). I find it very inspiring to remind myself what I have. ~Melanie

It’s interesting how you can see the rainbow look better... I had it sorted by rainbow in the before too but it just kind of got lost. Now the next question is what to tackle next? ~Melanie

It does look neater. I purchased containers like those also for cardstock. But I put all other paper including 12x12 paper pads in record album sleeves. They slide so easily on and off the shelves. The corners of the papers don't get bent. And since $tree has write on removable tabs, I can use them to label each sleeve. TFS

Funny you mention record sleeves... I just purchased some to use with organizing. I didn’t talk about my 8 1/2 x11 cardstock but it sounds like I do something similar. It’s all in a plastic pocket/sleeve that I can slide in and out of the shelf it’s stored on. Thanks for the suggestion. ~Melanie

Hi Natalie ... I realize I forgot to film that .. sigh... I think I’ll do a follow up video showing. But I’m the meantime the paper kits are in as bin that hold 12” paper from target (white basket weave) and the collections are still in the closet ( bulky ones) and the ones that are just paper and stickers are on a shelf in my book case. I don’t love that they are separated but I only have so much space so sometime you gotta do what you gotta do. ~ Melanie
