It's always bothered me when people complain about the appearance/size of the Steam Deck. Valve designed it the way they did for a reason. Turns out, if you want ergonomic access to thumbsticks, d-pad/ABXY buttons, AND trackpads...you have to make room for all of that. And those trackpads man...for those of us who put effort into learning to use them (and/or the Steam Controller) know their value. The Deck is uniquely positioned as a device that excels at playing most of the available Steam library. Including games that don't otherwise have good (or any) controller support.

Absolutely agree. My point was Ayaneo focused too much on the aesthetics of the device, and forgot that it still needs to be comfortable to hold and use.

As a Lenovo Legion Go owner (8.8" 2560x1600 screen) I've found it best to run demanding games at 1280x800 with integer scaling on. 2560x1600 is a perfect integer multiple of 1280x800, so you still get a very sharp display (343 pixels per inch) with good performance. People complain that 800p is too low but it's double the pixel density of a 4K 27" desktop monitor (163 PPI)...it looks fine. Even when you calculate the revised PPI at 1280x800 it's still higher than a 4K screen at 171 PPI.

Yeah, the 1440p display on the Legion Go makes a lot more sense, since you don't get issues with fractional scaling when you drop to exactly 1/4 (or 1/2 depending on how you count) resolution

I too have the Legion Go. But I gotta say that I generally prefer to run most games in 1600p. There definitely are exceptions. But that is one of the things that annoys me most about most reviews complaining about "too high resolution displays"... That assumes that everyone is going to be playing mainly new or newish AAA games. But indie games and even some AAA games that were primarily made for the Switch (Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2 specifically) run fine in 1600p and 1440p respectively (Stories 2 is a 16:9 only game for some reason). And even if you choose to run in 1200p or 800p if you switch on RSR you can still get the graphics upscaled to 1600p. I've seen both Craft Computing, Digital Foundry, and a lot of other channels bring up the high resolution as a negative. And I just don't get it. Okay, if you want to play Cyberpunk then maybe 1080p would have been a better fit. But there are so many games that are older or just less demanding that can run just fine in 1600p either natively or using upscaling.

18:42 On Steam you can choose which DLC is installed before you begin your download. Right-click Fallout 4 -> Properties... -> DLC -> Then uncheck "Fallout 4 - High Resolution Texture Pack". If you have already installed the texture pack, unchecking this option also removes the texture pack.

Your amazon screenshot to the rog ally is for the non extreme version. The z1 extreme is more comparable to the Kun but its still 600usd when on sale.

Besides the ergonomics I think their biggest mistake was putting a 1600p screen on it. You don't need that kind of resolution on an 8.4" screen. If everyone is going to drop the render resolution to 1200p anyway for performance then that is what you should be putting on the device to start with. It probably could have helped them cut the price down as well.

1080p/1200p is about optimal for a 7" class screen on a handheld device. It falls at right about the limit of human visual perception, so going higher resolution has no particular benefit. (Arguments to the contrary are in the same camp as the audiophile's "tubes vs. transistors" argument.) I have no issues with the Steam Deck's 800p resolution, and the lower demands of the lower resolution make for better gameplay.

Native screen resolution is a great point. I own a tricked out Kun and never used the full resolution. Everything is scaled down. I do not have many issues with accidental input on the trackpads. Would rather have them than not. Disagreed on the Windows front. Windows is a BENEFIT.

I own the 64 GB model ! I love the AYANEO KUN it’s my favorite hand, device so far. I will admit I do like my steam deck OLED model. But when I wanna play the heavy heating games, I grab the kUN.

Don't sugarcoat it, don't hold back!! Tell us what you REALLY think of it!! /jk It almost sounds like the steam deck and the koun are for two different audiences. The Deck is like the Toyota Camry that you drive to work everyday, the Kurn it's like the Ferrari you park in your garage, because it's too expensive to drive, and buff with a cloth diaper once a week. You get it because it's a status symbol, you get the deck because it just works.... Did I miss your mark?? Have a good night;

I guess we have different sized hands. I don't have most of the issues that you have controlling the Kun. I do agree that the Start/Select should not be on the same side at the bottom. That's a terrible design choice. And I don't like trackpads on any device. A Bluetooth mouse is a must for every handheld.

Hot Take: Any handheld PC over $1000USD is a waste of perfectly good silicon. In fact I would argue that no handheld PC should be above $700USD. That is the price ceiling at this point. I think the biggest problem with handheld PCs is that they keep trying to sell themselves based on specs (like the 2K display) and the problem with that is that you're still rocking integrated graphics. Integrated Graphics have come a long way in the last 5 years, but even at this stage, integrated graphics still get their shit rocked by even the lowest end dedicated GPU. I mean, would you seriously pay $1600USD for the same performance as a handheld at $700USD? It's a joke! I will say this though, all handheld PCs should come with at least one touchpad. The Kun gets that right at least.

Until another system is made with both joysticks on top instead of everyone (besides the steamdeck) trying to remake the xbox layout nothing is going to feel good. I can't stand trying to use xbox layout on a handheld that is remotely heavy. (funny enough, my main go-to controller atm is the stadia controller lol)

The Kun, like most of Ayaneo's products, sacrifices usability for a sleek, "sexy" appearance. Give me front-firing speakers and comfortable controls, not sleek lines. And for all of their pretentious marketing, Ayaneo is a shit-tier company with poor quality control and atrocious customer support. Don't believe me? I've literally seen people on r/ayaneo ask "Ayaneo device or Steam Deck?" and 90% of the commentators said "just get the Steam Deck." I'm in most of the handheld subreddits and believe me when I tell you, that's unique to Ayaneo. The rest of them are a lot more positive on their preferred brand/device.

I wouldn't say *most* of Ayaneo's products. The NEXT and Air handhelds are extraordinarily comfortable. They just missed the mark with the Kun.

Also according to the reviewer, one of the heaviest "handheld" he's ever reviewed (his words) on his channel. According to reviewer, in his words, "isn't really capable" of "running modern games at 2560 by 1600” the native resolution, and one quarter scale of 1280 x 800 "but it looks like absolute ###shi#t in games" That's in the first 3 minutes of the review
