Wow. I've been sewing for years. I love how you use the weights and the rotary cutters....so much better than pinning the pattern piece down and using scissors to cut it out. Your construction is amazing. So impressed. Thanks!

Thank you so very much for that tutorial on making your tee shirt, you just make it look so very easy especially with the way you piece it all together. I chose this one as it was £400 at the time. Much cheaper than all the others but still quite expensive. I bought it myself as a Christmas pressie. Link to the machines I used in the down bar x x

Thanks for showing us how to change the neckline of the Frankie t-shirt. I was wondering how you did it, as anything you do to the front and back would obviously affect the sleeves. I shall try this on the next Frankie t-shirt I sew. 😊

This was a fun vlog. I liked the little gadget you used to measure your hems. I have never seen a cover stitch machine, does it use twin needles? Did you use the same thread on the cover stitch machine and the over locker machine?
@crafthousemagic4 жыл бұрын
The cover stitch has the potential to use up to three needles but I only used two in this video. Yes I use the same thread on both machines, I just had to re thread it x x

Hi George. Most of the shelves on the wall are kallax units from Ikea. The drawers under the desks and desks are all Ikea too. But I also have a wooden shelving unit with cupboards at the bottom that was from Argos I think. The selves with the cupboards at the bottom need a lick of paint at some point x

Hi Ellie! I’m not familiar with these types of sewing machines. I only sew woven fabric on a “ regular” machine. Can you do a show and tell of your sewing machines and what they are used for? I’d love to sew knit fabric but know nothing about it!!!
@crafthousemagic4 жыл бұрын
Ooh fab idea. I will put that on my list for next week x
@GagaKnits4 жыл бұрын
That was great, Ellie. I will split my necklines into 8 instead of 4 from now on. I am trying to use my overlocker more and have a request please. Would you mind showing how you deal with coming to the end of sewing a loop, like the neckline, on the overlocker. Do you stop just before the start point? How do you make that join neat? I hope that makes sense. Thanks. Xxx
@crafthousemagic4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita. I do something that I have never seen in books or demos so it may be a bit naughty! I stitch around the neckline or whatever and run over where I have stitched at the beginning, then I make sure the needle is in the up position, lift the presser foot. Then I turn all the tension dials to 0 (make sure you remember what they are set on before you do this) then you can pull the thread away without having to stitch off the edge. Turn tension dials back. Put presser foot down and stitch a bit, just to get the machine working again. I will perhaps have to do a video tutorial of this to show you better x x

@@crafthousemagic I'm going to try that. Thank you, Ellie. It's great being able to get these helpful tips. The internet is great but you can spend hours looking for answers and get nowhere! X

Hi Ellie great tip I only pin neckbands in four places but it seems easier with eight. Can I ask I notice you only turn your head up once I’m am having a lot of trouble with the jersey it turns up on hems etc. Any tips it’s a real pain wearing something you have to keep smoothing the hems flat. Is your cover stitch and overlocker in one? You and Adam keep well.
@crafthousemagic4 жыл бұрын
I have a separate cover stitch and overlocker. I prefer it that way as I don’t have to convert it to do the different functions. I find using slightly thicker jersey it does not flick up as much and also using the coverstitch rather than twin needle or lightening stitch helps it keep flatter. I hope that helps x x
@marlenefaull354 жыл бұрын
Ah just watched you working with your overlocker, think that is one I may be looking at, your opinion on a first time purchase overlocker? It’s it easy to work, Ali I hear is horror stories about threading them.
@crafthousemagic4 жыл бұрын
This one is pretty straightforward to thread for an over locker. Obviously it takes a while to thread all four but you get used to it. I have heard that some are very difficult to thread. To the point you have to remove the stitch plate to thread the lower loopers. This one isn’t anything like that! x

Craft House Magic thanks Ellie, when the lockdown has eased I’ll go and look at one. Forever helpful. Thanks.

I have used an industrial over locker so is there a difference between them?

I have never used an industrial overlocker but what I have seen they are quite similar. Obviously the industrial ones are more sturdy and made to last x

I don’t have the Agnes pattern, but think I might deepen the Frankie too. How much extra length did you need for the neckband?
@crafthousemagic4 жыл бұрын
I just used the neckband from the Agnes so I don’t know. But I usually measure the distance around the neckline and subtract 10% if I don’t have a pattern piece (plus seam allowance of course) x
