Hello Friends!
Today I am crafting some Desert Terrain for my Dungeons and Dragons 5e campaign. My goal was to get something that was going to be highly functional without the mess of having sand all over it that would eventually fall and flake off.
Grab a beverage sit back relax and enjoy the process.

I took three days of searching for the algorithms to show me this. That board looks fantastic.

So one way I found to help keep your hands from being burned by the heat gun is to place a metal screw in the bottom and then use one of those extendable magnets used to pick up small metal filings to hold the piece. It’s surprising how strong those magnets are

Use heat resistant gloves when using the heat gun step on the foam that they use them in restraunt kitchens there like a white nitted fabric they even make them in a red rubber as a as seen on TV item.

I just use craft paints from the dollar store or Michaels for my terrain, and I use reaper paints for my minis

Where do you get your foam from? I live in a small town and am having trouble finding foam that thick.
@HallofCraftVids

I get it from the hardware store. I'm in Canada so I get it from either home Depot or Rona. It's in the construction section under insolation. It's technically called polystyrene.

Great video. I’m going to make my own set pretty soon. I was wondering if the heat gun step is necessary and what it actually does for the texture of a piece?
@HallofCraftVids
@HallofCraftVids 4 жыл бұрын
The heat gun step slightly melts the outside of the foam, giving it a bit of a harder shell. I suppose it isn't 100% necessary, but I do like the way the shell doesn't soak up paint like regular foam.

hey what colors did you use for the sand? (the glue and baking soda mix)
@HallofCraftVids

If I'm remembering correctly: golden brown mixed with a bit of cinnamon brown, both are just craft paints.

@HallofCraftVids
@HallofCraftVids 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly this was quite a while ago so I can't recall what specific paints I used. It would have been various brown and yellow craft paints throughout. I believe the base coat was a mahogany brown.

@@HallofCraftVids thanks for the encouragement it turned out pretty well for a first time I definitely need to work on dry brushing, I was wondering one more thing, would the “sand” mixture work on models as a base coat as well? I have a few buildings coming for my set and wanted to give them that rough sandstone texture and look, if there’s a different or better method I’d appreciate any tips thanks have a great weekend
@HallofCraftVids
@HallofCraftVids 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried it on a vertical surface, but I would imagine you could make it work, might need to experiment with the consistency of the mix eg: more sand less glue - to make sure it doesn't run too much
