This will be a shocker for everyone, but today, we're making pool cues. I know, no one saw that coming.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have met such awesome people to build cues for. Each person has been a joy to work with. Jerod and Wendy are no exception, and I appreciate them for entrusting me with their creative challenge.
I recommend Daisy for carbon fiber shaft tubes: www.carbonfibercue.com/

Heya guys, I’m getting lots of requests for purchasing these sleds. I don’t have plans to sell them. Combining two funky angles into a single cut appears to make table saws angry, and they feel a little risky to me. And they’re non adjustable, made specifically for the point geometry I like when making full splices. (Your points will be different and not match)

Great work. May I suggest looking into slitting saws & an indexing head/ offset tailstock for cutting those points? (Or maybe one of those toolpost mounted dremels)?That tablesaw jig works, but slitting saws have a much smaller kerf (less waste), are more precise & won't kick your work across the room & shatter it.
@Studiotronics
@Studiotronics Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! I wonder if slitting saws somehow reduce the risk of kickback. I’m unsure. My current blade is a thin kerf although probably not as thin as a slitting. I was actually thinking about going back to the original thickness blade as the riving knife is kneecapped with thinner kerfs. I’ll research slitting saws today.

I enjoyed this video a lot as I do all your videos. I was sad when it ended but I’ll watch it a few times. Just wondering if you are familiar with movies made by Studio Ghibli, the Japanese anime film-maker renown worldwide ? A lot of creative and artistic people love their movies for their art and creativity and you are certainly one such person. I’m an old guy but have been a diehard fan for years. If you need a recommendation try Castle in the Sky or Spirited Away.

If you're using a Freud blade, it's thin kerf and is deflecting off the hardwoods. Especially when ripping on such a shallow angle. Might see if a thicker blade helps, AND try cutting with the stock turned the other way. Just cut straight into the end grain. Cool work. Good luck. 👍
@Studiotronics
@Studiotronics 2 ай бұрын
You made this post 5 months ago and I never followed up. You were 100% right about the thin kerf blade. I replaced it with a regular blade and it eliminated the kick back. You're a legend.

I seen your first video on cues an been watching since the start. You were overly excited 😂 now it seems from my experience overly stressful lol. Im been making cues also an thats how it feels for me. But you have leveled up 10x . 75% of what i know came from your videos. Im getting into making fullsplice an half splices cues. An wondering if you will share the specs of your angle jig. I only have a tablesaw atm an shopping for a bandsaw.
@Studiotronics
@Studiotronics Жыл бұрын
The specs of the jig will be different depending on what kind of geometry you like (long points, short points, width of your returns, etc). By making more and more cues and seeing how I’m doing the cuts in these videos, I’m confident you can reverse engineer it. Sit down with pencil and paper and decide how you personally like full splices to look. How deep should the points go? Past the handle? Or short and old school? Thick returns? Razor thin? How much empty space between top of the points and joint? Once you find that out, make some tester prongs for the body. Then start taking measurements with your caliper. What shape is needed to fit the negative of this prong I just made? Once you do this, you’ll have your dimensions. CAD it up. You can make it on a table saw or cnc or wherever. I 3d printed mine.
