looks like fine silver and not sterling.. it didn't blacken when it was being flame fusion welded and there was no flux used.

That's exactly what I thinking because if it was Sterling Silver it would have oxidised during the flame because it contains 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and there was no flux during the melting and soldering so there for its pure silver.
