CRAFTSMAN V20 Brushless RP 1/2" Hammer Drill Driver Review

CRAFTSMAN claims the RP Drill CMCD732 has 26% more runtime compared to CRAFTSMAN brushed drill CMCD700. The RP Drill also has 330 UWO and provides very good power. If I had one complaint about the drill is that it does not come with an auxiliary handle. That would be helpful when using this drill with larger bits.
The two-speed gearbox is 0-1900 rpm on high and 0-600 rpm on low. The CRAFTSMAN V20 Brushless RP 1/2" Hammer Drill Driver comes with a 3-year warranty.
If you purchase this drill, or any drill in a kit, note the power will be low with the included 2Ah batteries. These new drills really do much better with 2P and 3P batteries that are able to hold the voltage higher.

Nice drill all things considered. Good performance and affordable. Regarding the auxiliary handle, I agree with you. I don’t know why more companies don’t include those with their bigger drills. That’s one nice thing about the Kobalt drills - they include the handle with all their drills.

Great review as always! I think its based on the dcd777 because theres no place for a handle, pretty much same uwo

We don't have the craftsman here in the UK and Ireland. We have Dewalt Milwaukee Makita Bosch and Hikoki. Great Video

Test the impact driver and even include vs tools in its price class. I work for an industrial contractor. We use ryobi, DeWalt, Makita, craftsman, kobalt, and Milwaukee. Some of these budget brushless tools surprise me in "practical" applications. How they hold up is a mystery as we use the impact driver the most. All day every day. A kobalt impact driver I have been using for over a year and still working Great. I only use 4ah batteries or larger for all tools are necessary to last for a days worth of work. 2ah that usually come with the tools end up on flashlights.

Good évaluation as usual, with the important safety note about the need for a side handle 👍🏼

The reason why the 6Ah battery produces less torque than the 4Ah one is that they both have 2 banx of 5-cell series of 18650 batteries inside, but the 6Ah battery has 3Ah capacity cells and the 4Ah has 2Ah capacity cells. Li-ion batteries are, as a rule of thumb, either high capacity or high current drain, but you can very rarely have both. So, with the 3Ah cells inside the 6Ah battery, you most likely have a lower max current that can be drawn by the tool, resulting in less torque. Obviously, the single-bank 2Ah battery doesn't even come into play here. The 9Ah battery has 3 banx, making it approx 1.5 times more powerful than the 6Ah one.

I have a lot of the Craftsman V20 stuff and honestly this new RP version seems like a step down or at best lateral from the previous version, which by the way the Chuck on the previous is metal and the Dewalt aux handle fits it.

this is more like the replacement for the mid grade CMCD731. The flagship, Made in USA CMCD721 hammerdrill hasn't had its replacement (it may never get one)

Do you have craftsman v20 tools or craftsman v20 brushless tools? Because the v20 RP tools are rebadged v20 brushless. Definitely not a step down, they’re identical.

Can you share the part number for the Dewalt handle that fits the USA Craftsman drills?

@@6atlantis I have the USA brushless stuff. If it’s “not a step down” then why is the Chuck now plastic instead of metal and the aux handle metal ring gone? They cheapened it, dude. It’s not the same.

So not a 996 but probably more the 796 in red now that DeWalt has the 800 and 805

Can someone give me some insight on this. Craftsman sent me this as a replacement to my brushed driver. Switching between the speed selector I’m not hearing any difference in sound.
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict Жыл бұрын
You should be able to see the speed difference in the chuck. Have you put a bit in it and drilled on high and then on low to see the difference?
@EricStrobel09

Interesting that the difference between 4 - 6 ah battery is almost nothing. Was hoping for a Craftsman resurgence but not seeing this getting more love by the average diy'r then ryobi

I have to say I was dissaponted in the drills lack of aux handle and power and have seen more from other DIY brands, but in many ways the drill does give me the hints of a Dewalt drill so it was still emjoyable to use.

Great channel. Solid review. Never saw the point of this line of tools from sbd other then to capitalize on the name . If your a pro your buying Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita not craftsman. And if your a homeowner your better off with ryobi or Skil…

What a bummer. Most RP tools seem to be existing Craftsman models, just relabeled and added some aesthetic touches here and there. No power increase whatsoever, why bother then? PS. this is not a replacement for the flagship Made In USA CMCD721 model; I had both that one and the CMCD 731 which is being replaced by this. It's definitely a step down in build quality and capability. This is more like a DCD778 (entry level DeWalt Brushless hammer drill with 350UWO which I also owned) than a DCD996 painted in red
@MoneyManHolmes
@MoneyManHolmes Жыл бұрын
I still prefer the USA model. I’ve put mine through absolute heIl over the years and it hasn’t missed a beat. I also know there’s a Dewalt handle cross compatible with it, but I’m not sure what the part number is.

ALL I BUY are CRAFTSMAN tools. But regarding the drills I have to be completely honest and biased. The USA made HAMMER DRILL and IMPACT DRILL are still much better for your money. I can’t COMMIT to the new BRUSHLESS R-P line of “DRILLS ONLY”. I’m not happy with the construction quality and the POWER OUTPUT of the R-P line of drills. All other R-P Tools are much better then there none brushless counterparts.
