I like the feel of carving wood with a plane. It is also ideal to use a plane to round the corners of the box. This is a simple and beautiful jewelry box.

I want to know the wood being used. If it is balsa then the planer doesn't have to be very sharp because it is super soft and easy to cut... I can't find anything about the type of wood being used in the video...

@@GOLD_FEVER i don't believe it's balsa, i imagine it would be even harder to get a good cut like when you cut soft wide bread no matter how sharp the knife, you smoosh it together ^^

Rabbet he cut with plane can be much quicker cut on a table saw… or with a router. Way he done it is awesome for for hobby but if you trying to sell it that little box would have to sell for a equivalent of $200-500 to just pay for labor.

1:26 Look at the unusual grain on the side of the plane. Can anybody identify the type of wood the plane is made from?
@nicknaz
@nicknaz 9 ай бұрын
IMO this is typical for kanna white oak. Such grain you can see in some points of this wood when cutting it.

Guy needs to use a smaller plane when shaving those small pieces. That large plane just seems unwieldy for such small items lol. Those tiny c clamps are so adorable haha

But he makes it work. I think a smaller plane might not be strong enough to do what he wants it to do.

This video is about the craftsmanship, not about diy safety. The real craftsmen of present and past used no gloves and goggles. A hammer is as dangerous as a table saw.
