A tip when applying wet glue to intricate dies etc is to put some down on a non stick surface (baking paper will work too) and dab a sponge in it dab off excess glue and use sponge to apply glue to the die cut. No more globby glue blobs on your project 😊

I use Natasha Footer’s way of using double sided tape - lifts a portion of the tape up on each side, folds it over 90 degrees. Place on top, when properly centered, pull ‘tape tab’ so rest of tape adheres - hard to describe, easier to watch

The hand sanitizer is great for getting sticky off hands and scissors. If i get glue oozing out from under an embellishment, i wipe it, then after dry, tap my embossing buddy ( little pillow with powder in it) onto it.

This was really good information. Thank you for the tips and tricks. I make cards, albums, and journals... mostly albums and journals these days. I prefer glue to tape for most projects because I find it lasts best. I mostly use Aileene's tacky glue for pretty much everything because it has a good hold and if put on thinly doesn't tend to warp. I also have red liner tape in 2 sizes, Scor-tape in 1/2", and a generic double-sided tape in a couple of widths. Plus sundry foam tapes... and some glue dots. I also often use a masking tape to temporarily hold things in place while I get something else in. Each of these tapes or glues has come in handy at different times for different purposes. As for cleaning.... For my scissors... Goo Gone for the sticky parts and after they're clean, either hand sanitizer or a baby wipe gets the oil off. I use Lysol wipes for my silicone mat to keep it nice and clean.

I’ve tried many wet glues, but I keep going back to Nuvo Deluxe. It never fails, never clogs, is easy to control. And of course, has the prettiest cap! One tip I thought you would demonstrate was pulling back a little tab on each side of tape, placing the layer in place and then pulling out the backing from the sides. Great tip for those who struggle getting layers straight. Although of course the added wet glue helps too.

I use that same thing with double sided adhesive, only remove 1”, fold it out so it peeks out the sides. Also same for red line tape. And Nuvo is also my go to wet glue. Adding wet glue to the tapes including foam tape also helps ensure longevity, I’ve had 3D redlined taped projects come apart over time.

Love the heat gun with reheating the glue, I’ve never heard of this and will be trying this out. I normally have fly always when putting the heat glue directly to the embellishment, so I’ve given up on the glue gun. I’ll have to get this out and dust off the glue gun and see if I can reestablish a relationship. 😛 Merry Christmas Lou to you and your family. Crafty hugs from down-under. Xx

What a brilliant idea for using 'hot glue'!! I love your tip for making tiny glue 'dots' and reheating them before adhering flowers, ephemera, et cetera!! No more glue strings!! Perhaps because I'm a senior with only a few short months under my belt with card-making experiences, I find that wet glue ends up on my fingers and hands!! I've tried removing it with wet wipes, even Clorox wipes, but to no avail!! The only thing that seems to remove it completely is washing my hands with some Dawn dish detergent!! (Getting up from my small crafting area and going into the bathroom is very time-consuming for me each time I use glue!! LOL Might you have a tip for me for removing any glue from my hands so that I can complete a card to the end without going to the washroom?) Thank you so very kindly for your adhesive video and chat along with your sage wisdom and advice!!!

My go to's are DST and a fine tip nozzle. My tip for using DST is to lift the corners and make 'wings' to hold while positioning the topper and press very, very gently so barely stuck. This way it can be moved without damage. Also I always decant PVA glue into a smaller bottle preferably with a fine nozzle. My mantra for all glues ~~~~ If the glue won't stick, it's the wrong glue.

I like your quick vids! I use hand sanitizer to clean my scissors when they get sticky. For intricate dies, I often use the wet glue dotting method but, if I had enough forethought, it’s also good to put adhesive on the back of the paper before die cutting, so you end up with a sticker. Sometimes I can mangle the intricate die trying to get the tape backer off though. The other option to create a sticker is a sticker maker (Xyron). I find it works okay for vellum too because the Xyron is wall to wall so the whole piece of vellum still looks uniform after applying the adhesive. Else, if any part of the vellum is covered, I dot glue behind those objects.

I have a 714 ATG gun that I've used for probably 15+ years. Only lately, it is giving me problems. I've purchased the tape from Tape Jungle, Amazon, and a few other places... it all seems about the same. For some reason, the tape doesn't roll effectively after it gets about halfway through.. I usually end up taking it off the gun and using it as tear tape. I've checked out videos on this problem, but the solutions end up the same way. This video was very informative... thank you. I also recently purchased the precision glue gun - and again, halfway through the bottle the glue won't squeeze out. Maybe it is just me?? LOL Happy crafting to all !

Thank you. I love the tape pens, but never get to use but a few uses because they either just quit or separate. Adtech separates, and i cannot get to the dots. I have lost around 10 tape pens of 2 brands and just give up. When the regular or dottie works, they are the best, but when they get stuck, i get adhesive on my fingers trying to restart. They quit when i need them most. So, i am experimenting with a lot for intricates. I love the microdot sheets, but worry that they won't last. I am trying xyron and even run them through the die cut machine to stop webbing, but i still get some, which ruins my work. I love the way it wirks and strength of the adhesive, though. I do like the tiny glue bottles. I found Gina K glue i dearly love, but it is so expensive. Still, it is weatherproof, so i will stay with that. I bought some large rolls of adhesive backing to try, but have not used it yet. I have to find the video of how to use it. I love the red tape. I just ordered a small size to test. I also just got the tear tape, so we will see😂 I have no definitive answers yet. I went to our church service with glue and glitter all over my hands and clothes! I sat there trying to peel it off. Everywhere I walked, iridescent glitter followed! If i get overflow of glue, i sprinkle glitter. Uh, don't do that! I was in a big time crunch this whole month. Boy, i have to find solutions, especially when using metallic cardstock. Dots of tacky help, but i guess i need more practice. That us hiw i messed up my cards and webbing from the xyron. I loved your tips and responses. Thank you.

Hey, Lou, the hot glue dot tip is truly inspired! Definitely something I will adopt. In return, you might want to give these a try for glue gunk on scissors (or anything else for that matter): either (very carefully, obviously) use one of those glue erasers, usually works a treat. And / or just a little bit of isopropyl alcohol on any old rag will get any tape or glue residue right off anything (including glass mats or even guillotines!) Great tips, especially about the hot glue. My favorite glue is the clear, solvent based glue. It was easy to find in Holland but not in the USA. Most glues here are water based and that warps paper/cardstock. After over 9 years I finally found it though. To remove my sticky from my scissors I like to use an adhesive eraser. They are yellow-is, rough structure erasers. Works also extremely well if you want to remove certain glue spills (sticky glues and solvent based glues). Foam tape is flexible and can bend into corners and circles if you remove the contact paper before adhering. Great to know when you make shaker cards. If you use double sided adhesive, a tip to glue on the panel perfect: release on each side a bit of the contact paper and fold it outside. You will have a bit of that paper sticking out from each strip of adhesive. Position the panel and hold it in place while you pull the contact paper away. If you don’t have a brayer, you can also use an old gift card or such to spread out the wet glue. Gently dip your die cut into the thin glue layer (I like to push it into the glue very gently with side of the gift card) and adhere in place. Thanks for sharing👍

Looks like the Sizzix is cordless. I'm going to check it out. Thank you. Oh and I almost forgot: I was wondering about the tear-able tape you used that had no sticky on the edges. I couldn't tell what you called it. It sounded like 'fingerless' but I'm in the States and old too so I wasn't sure. @priscillabade614

Glue dots are good for smaller pieces like bows. If f the ribbon goes all the way across the panel, cut it long enough to reach the back of the panel on both ends. Apply double sided tape to the back of the panel where the ribbon ends will be. Adhere one end of the ribbon to the tape, wrap the ribbon across the front of the panel, and adhere on the other side.
@craftypam9992
@craftypam9992 6 ай бұрын
If my ribbon needs more adhesive than just taping the ends to the back, I use ordinary tape, putting a strip of it on the card, then adding the ribbon firmly on top. For more reluctant ribbon, I'll use red tape the same way. Alternatively, put the tape on the back of the ribbon, then add to the card.

Use a non stick, silicone coated scissor for cutting anything sticky, such as glue dots, double sided tape etc.

Hi Lou... I find that after awhile my tape and double sided foam squares are coming off no stick left on them at all ?

I did shaker tags last year for Christmas gifts for grandkids(20 grandkids with multiple gifts) and I had a couple of left over for this year. I used a high quality liquid glue to stick down my shaker walls and found that this year one side had come loose. I know it wasn't the glue because I've used this glue for years. I think it was the fun foam I used to create my shaker walls. I was able to get my fine tip nozzle in there and apply more glue and then set something heavy until it dried. I prefer to build up my shaker walls with layers of cardstock but since I was making ALOT of shaker tags, I opted to go with a high quality thick fun foam. Don't think I will do that again! I always create my shaker walls and then set large cutting boards and something heavy on top until glue has dried completly and that also ensures everything stays flat. That's why I am thinking glues or tapes and a fun foam do not last forever. Lesson learned. From now on I'll spend the extra time to build my shaker walls with cardstock. Normally a tag would be a throw away but my grandkids keep my tags and hang them on their trees the following Christmases so since it's something they want to keep as they are growing up I need to make them for preservation. And yes, I do have 20 grandchildren and will have 21 in February!

Great tips for me as a newbie card maker, just curious about using wet glue on tape for easy positioning, does that not negate the using of tape? I've also seen a crafter on KZfaq using a glue stick in the same way, what is your thoughts on doing that? X K

The glue from glue sticks comes apart after a while. Fine for short term projects but not for something that you want to last for years. It may not hold heavier material well.

Ridiculous to recommend foam tape or solid glue tape for light weight paper. The expense is extraordinary. I use regular white school glue for card making with pretty light weight papers. What matters is the amount you are using. Put the glue into the needle tip model glue bottles that are widely available in craft stores and use that to dispense your glue. I don’t get warping because I’m not using too much wet glue.

I use both those glues on light weight paper all the time. It works great. Just because a tip doesn’t work for your style doesn’t make it a ridiculous tip. That’s ridiculous to think so.
