dr7ooob, this is the Hugh segment I was talking about - two witty, stunning Brits at play! During this May 5, 2008 visit, Hugh and Craig quibble over the height of Craig's chair, Craig shows his empty tooth socket, and they talk of motorcycles and dating-age daughters.
This was Episode 666, a gem in TLLS catalog. Craig stumbled over the "deevil" in the monologue and got brainy with talk of Satan and Milton's "Paradise Lost". He 'plumped' a home viewer in reply to an email (clip is already in my channel). He lost his composure over an attractive girl in boots, and came undone during the WDWLOTSTC. (I'll upload that clip shortly.).
Add Hugh to the mix, and #666 was a keeper. The first taping I ever attended, and despite the down-sides of live tapings, I couldn't have asked for better, or had more fun! :)

They worked together on stage in a comedy skit with Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson a long time ago, it is on youtube somewhere. Masters of their craft! Thank you for posting this excellent video.

There are so many accents in Britain that you can't even imagine. Americans call it all "British accent" and that's also the case with "American accent" thing.

When 'House' came out, my only exposure to Hugh Laurie was in 'Blackadder', so I immediately had to find out if he was a Brit who could sound American, an American who could sound British, or maybe Canadian... Imagine my surprise when I discovered that he's actually a Guatemalan performance artist, born Hugo Laredos, and has been doing his "Hugh Laurie" act for over 40 years! And by 'discovered' I mean 'made up to see how many people don't read the whole comment before they start hating'. :-)

This may be one of the most important videos I've ever watched. First time I watched this Ferguson fellow and it was all thanks to Hugh. And it was so good I decided to keep going and so I have spent hours on end watching Craig.

So weird to hear Hugh in his native tongue. He does a great American accent. This is the first time I've seen him not on the show.

...erm... yes he is. He was born in Glasgow which is in Scotland, which is a part of Great Britan making him British. He's not English but he is British.

I can't stop watching this it's comedy gold! It's almost like it's prepared, the way they're bouncing jokes of each other and generally being silly, but they just have a similar sense of humour. I have to say though the excessive laughter puts me off (e.g. clapping at 2:27 just for sitting back down?!) but that's how american audiences seem to be.

unfortunately Americans seem to have forgotten how to come with original ideas where TV and Cinema is concerned. Thankfully the UK is picking up our slack in our hour of need. Thank you UK for bringing a sense of originality to an otherwise predictable entertainment industry! In all seriousness I think it mainly has to do with the fact that American production companies aim almost exclusively to children / teens / young adults while the UK still sees the need for adult programming.

Ferg, I'm British and have been watching Hugh on T.V, since I was knee high to a grass hopper. I was laughing at Kelliop's epic ignorance. But I do sincerely and unreservedly apologise from the bottom of my heart that my country inflicted Simon Carroll on the world. I think after we produced so many good actors the universe needed some kind of balance and he was spawned.

Thank you so much! You're the only person that knows what they're talking about on youtube! I had a lot of American's raging at me when I posted a comment because they thought Ireland was part of Britian! Which we all know, only Northern Ireland is part of the UK, not GB.

@Fergufool That's kinda nice to hear! It's almost like some American audiences can't distinguish between what REALLY deserves a laugh and something that is just slightly humourous because all the laughter seems the same intensity. I find it a bit offputting tbh!

@Fergufool i agree with you . i have DVDs of both English and american whose line is it anyway and you do notice the difference in audience reaction . clap and laugh only when the performers do something worthy of it . i admit Hugh Laurie and Craig Ferguson are very funny together .

it used to be that parents tried to marry their daughters off as soon as possible, but now it's a given that all fathers don't want their daughters to even date, and even some mothers are like that too. women becoming more independent made the custom of early marriage die off, but the aversion to daughters having sex is still going strong. I know there are reasons for it, but it still seems silly.

Look, I'm a Brit, we call it an American Accent because that's what it is. Even though there are different American accents, they are accents FROM America. We're not trying to be disrespectful. It's just like a load of Americans call it a British accent, which is actually worse cause, they imediatly asume the only British accent is the posh, up-market one that very few people actually speak like.

I always enjoy when craig has english guests on the show, still have hard time with comming with terms hugh's english lol, always heard him use an american accent instead of an english one, it kind of confuses me you know. :)

Hey brits, don't get angry if people outside UK gets confused about being brit, being welsh, english or whatever. Every country has its things, I mean, many people call americans yankies, and as far as I know yankies are (or were??)those in the north part of U.S. I'm spanish, and yesterday I watched a british series' episode where they said someone was from Spain and she's crearly from latin america and spoke like them.If it means no harm,if it isn't xenophobic or mean,Its not that important! :)

As I said, I know the reasons for it, but it still seams silly. And the aversion to daughters having sex is not just caused by wanting to protect and to stop unwanted pregnancies. My friend's parents don't want to even hear that their precious MARRIED daughter might be having sex. They want grandchildren, but still will be sad when she gets pregnant because it's proof of sex. I think it has more to do with the irrational association between virginity and innocence.

yeah, it causes frustration to no end. they're not allowed to sleep in the same room at her parents' house. the thing is, whenever I bring it up to anyone over 60, they usually respond with, "That's a bit extreme, but I can understand. That's their little girl, after all." my brother thinks it's fine, and always says that he would be happiest if his little girls became nuns. of course, he expects grandchildren from his son. the sexual double standard is a pet peeve of mine.

The location of the short coming was never an issue. It was, in fact, the obtuse manner in which you corrected it that I was criticizing. The most embarrassing misconception I have seen to date is the UK's persistence to call all American southerners inbreds. When in fact the British royalty has practiced inbreeding for centuries. Up until recently, hopefully.

So according to this practice, one could say that Londoners live on and in Great Britain, while Anglesey residents are in but not on. And if Scotland seceded, Glaswegians would be on but not in Great Britain whilst Orcadians would be right out. How could anyone be confused? :) And by the way, if England is a country, what is the UK? Or vice versa? Okay, throttle that pedant!! Let's get back to Craigy and Hugh cuddling.

That's one way of looking at it, which is valid, but you could also say (as some do) that American audiences are relaxed and lively, versus uptight and dull British ones. Either way, the clapping wasn't for them sitting back down but for the joke that preceded it. And please don't assume that any recorded show is an accurate representation of American audiences. Between editing, recorded laughter and applause getting added in and producers prodding audience reaction, it's not all real.

brits do less shows with lower budgets because they have an incredibly small film industry compared to hollywood. in fact, the only film industry in the wold that is on the same level money-wise is bollywood. add to that, britain has a way smaller population than the united states, so there are LESS actors to begin with.

actually Craig Ferguson is Scottish, but he's not British any more because he's a US citizen, making him a Scottish American.
