Glass Artist Craig Mitchell Smith talks to Laurie Lonsdorf, SBDC's Senior Consultant, about starting and growing his small business.
Transcript:
I really never intended doing my artwork as
a business. I started making artwork that
I believed in, and much to my surprise people
started asking me, "How much is that?" I had
no idea. But I figured it out pretty quickly.
I'm very proud to have made five jobs, and
in that way I can help not only lift people's spirits, because my work is primarily joyful, but I'm creating livelihoods for people. That I'm as proud of as anything I've ever done.
Now I have a better understanding of the business
end of why I do what I do, and how to make this a sustaining, long-term workable business.
The Small Business Development Center has
been enormously helpful for me. I'm an artist. I'm a visionary. I know how to make fantasylook, come to life, and be real. I did not have a business background. I didn't know
how to make numbers in columns make sense. And all of that has been, I've been really, really, grateful to the Small Business Development Center.
