This homebrew is great for the holidays! It's sweet, a little tart, and low ABV so you don't end up like Drunk Uncle. *Equipment links below!

It is about that time of the year again. Post Christmas I can get cranberries for about $6 a case. I want to make a stout with them.... for next Christmas. It will need some age. Cranberry wine and cranberry mead are also on my radar.... and cranberry juice canned up. I will be swearing at my own dang self when all of this is going on. LOL

Also, I think pilsner malt contain more SMM (S-methyl methionine) than other modified malts such as pale malt. so if you want to avoid DMS you could also boil for 90 min. which in not really necesary if you have a vigorous boil and do not cover the pot. GREAT VIDEO!! :)

Turned out good. Opened my first taster bottle today after 2 weeks bottle conditioning. Good beer, fruity and slightly tart, but not sour or too tart. It was still kinda cloudy even with the enzyme. I had good carb but low head retention. I did a mini-mash version. Differences: minus 1.6 lbs 2 row, replaced with 1 lb Breiss Pale Ale DME minus 4.4 lbs pilsner, replaced with 3.3 lb Breiss Pilsen LME All the rest the same. So instead of 11 lbs grains, it was 5 lbs grains + 3.3 lb LME + 1 lb DME 5.25 gal in fermenter, OG=1.043, Into bottling bucket 5 gal with FG=1.011 , 4.2 ABV My OG was quite a bit lower than hers but my FG was a bit lower too. Flora milled her grains finer than I had mine. Next time I would double mill my grains (since I mill at brew store and cant change their settings) and add some more DME.

I’m brewing this today, 10/18/2020! Was able to pick up fresh cranberries yesterday. The only thing I changed was the yeast. Using dry S-33 as I couldn’t get my hands on the liquid. Oh and just regular lemons :) Cheers can’t wait to try it

Sounds like it would pair very well with Thanksgiving eggs rolls. They are easy to make. All you need is a Turkey loin from Aldi's. A box of stove top stuffing. Instant mash potatoes and won ton wraps that you can get @ Giant Egale in the Vegan section. All you do is cook everything and put it in the wonton wrap. Roll them up and deep fry till golden brown. Plus you can make a cranberry sauce for dipping.

When using Pilsner I always boil between 75 and 90 minutes. That gets rid of any dms issues I might get from Pilsner malt. Hope that helps with your competition beers.

It takes more time, but lengthen your boil time to 90 mins to get rid of the DMS issue.

Why the Dusseldorf yeast? Seems a bit odd as I just made my Altbier this weekend and Dusseldorf is all I use for that but it is because it is where Altbier originated. Just wondering the method to your madness. (we all have a method to our madness just curious to yours.)

Do you think that cranberries add any bitterness to the final product? Have you ever "dry hopped" with cranberries? I know with the method you used here you don't have to worry about sanitizing the fruit, or more oxygen getting in your beer.

Well, I can chalk this up to a complete failure. My Mash and Strike Temp and Mash process went well. I pulled the grain basket, let it drain, dumped the grain and clean the basket out. I then put the grain basket back in the kettle. (Not sure if this was the right time). My wart started to boil and added the 1oz of hops. Set the timer for 50 minutes and added the remaining 3oz of hops. Right after, I connected my hoses from Kettle to Pump, Pump to Plate Chiller and Plate Chiller to Hose to recirculate. This is where the issue started. The wart in between the Grain Basket and the Kettle Outlet emptied out. Upon this happening, I had this large cloud of steam and a smell like something was burning. I lifted the grain basket and nothing was draining. I even tried using my mash paddle to see if anything would improve. The whole bottom and sides of the Grain Basket were clogged with Protein. I had to dump it as I did not have anything else available to finish the brew process. I then noticed my element was completely black and coted with what ever it was burning. I'm assuming Protein? After reading this, what did I do different than you? I'm rather frustrated, not your fault, now that it is too late in the upper midwest to brew to have this ready for Thanksgiving. I look forward to your feedback as I would like to find a way to brew this in a years time.
