7:32 you're correct there mate. I couldn't see a darn thing from underneath. But, to date, your video has helped me locating the crankshaft sensor on a 2.2 Santa Fe. I could not find any diagrams, pictures or videos for a 2.2 Diesel. They're all for the 2.4 or v6 and petrol engines. And they all say that the location is similar in all variants, but I looked in every location that was mentioned and couldn't find anything that was described. I rven purchased a Haynes workshop manual specific to my year, and even that says its where the starter motor is. So thank you for saving my sanity😊. I will definitely like and subscribe. Thanks again.

Ive had the chance to to this again, on a different vehicle. I will honestly say i did it without seeing where it was, i did not remove absolutely anything, i knew where it was and did it by touch. I was amazed how much work was the first time, 3 years later took me 3 minutes. Humans are amazing. I am glad it helps. Thank you.

@@yell0monkey856it would be great if you did a lil video explaining how you did this. I have 2007 2.2 diesel. Wouldn’t start after already got driving, died at traffic lights. Recovery came, tested, not alternator, not battery, the official test said it’s Crankshaft Sensor. He showed me where it was, which was where you were looking. It’s only £30 for new one but I’m not a mechanic lol

@@SShowcarewell, this is a lil video explaining how i did this. I know it is not the best video ever, but gets you close to where you need to be. Its fine if you are not a mechanic, but if you cant do it, better leave it to someone who can. A genuine Hyundai sensor, today, 2024, is about £60, so i seriously sugest buy a quality sensor. If i made a video of an engine on the stand, clearly visible, all i would have done is undo a 10 mil bolt, sensor out, sensor in. Would have helped no one. I tried to show how to get to it, where about it should be, and how difficult, or not, it is do diy. I think i did a decent job.

Thanks! I've got some problem with my santa -08. Mostly egr related. Some cleaning and then the problem is solved for a while. But! All of a sudden it did start after the cleaning. But it did shut down when the engine reach correct working temperature. Sometimes the code crank shaft sensor is on sometimes its not. I ordered a new egr-motor and a cps sensor. So tomorrow i will see if it helps. Glad to see where the cps is located!

Hi, i'm glad this video helps you in some way. From my experience, the sensor will stop working when hot, then resume when cooled for a while, but eventualy stops alltogether. Eger motor the same, you can clean the valve as much as you like, but when the little ecu on top of its motor is going, theres no cleaning. Best of luck.

Thanks for sharing, I have exact same problem on my Hyundai Santa fe 2.2 diesel and same code (P0366). Strange problem because starts intermittently. I will buy the sensor and try the same repair as you did

These sensors dont usually fail completely and sudenly. Tool mine 5 days to die. But when it starts causing issues, the chepest and easiest fix is to change it. Sometimes might need camshaft changing too, because they work together. If after these easy and cheap ways to try dont work, then the big work starts, check timing first, belts obviously wear with time and can stretch, not just brake, or internal damage, like bottom bearings. As i said, easiest and cheapest way to try is the sensors. Best of luck!

Im just back on customers car after changing the crank pos sensor for an original a month ago. Yep. Original £70 and a month later no start with it saying crank pos sensor. So my advice is to look at the front right of engine block. There is the connector where a long lead from the sensor joins the wiring loom. I have my thoughts on that being dodgy. Check there first before changing the sensor. Unplug and then spray inside with contact cleaner and then plug it back together.

Hello. If it failed after a month, something might have happened there. You can obviously use a voltmeter to check for voltage at cranking, and specialised equipment to measure the pikes of signal on the sensor, but its getting complicated for a drive way job. As i mentioned in the video, its always worth checking wiring when doing the sensor, and if not obvious, i recommend proper software readings before ripping through wiring loom. It is possible for the new sensor to just fail. I have not fitted a genuine one in the video. Could try get it replaced on warranty.

Thanks but highly likely the connector front of engine block where sensors ling lead connects to wiring loom. Im doing one right now. I have all the oscilloscopes and jaz.

@@yell0monkey856 ok so checked the data on crank sensor today and it said resistance for the sensor should be between 774 - 946 ohms. I checked the one which is brand new a month before from Hyundai. The reading was 1082 and the data sheet said if its out of spec then change the sensor. So I have ordered a second new sensor from Hyundai today. They said they would let me resistance test it in their dept before buying it to see if it is within spec from my Haynes Workshop Data spec. Will update as I know.

No, ive not done the turbo. Didnt seemed a big deal, just loosen if possible the oil feed pipe first, because it can sometime break trying to remove. That way, you'll have time to order a replacement.

I change crankshaft my self i deleted p0336 and it wont start, battery is full all fuse is good. I disconnect the negative battery before i change the sensor probably wrong procedure it wont start.

Hi, something it is not clear for me is in case the sensor is covered with oil at the moment of replacing it, is it normal or some internal o’ring/joint is damaged? Can be the oil the problem of damaging the sensor?

If the part of the sensor which sits inside the gearbox, reading the flywheel is full of oil, then yes, it can malfunction. And also yes, either your crankshaft seal or your hydraulic bearing are leaking, and thats a bigger problem (gearbox out, new clutch, flywheel etc). If the outside part is dirty should not affect the reading of the flywheel. Maybe if oil gets in its plug.

My mechanic has told me that it could take 6 hours of labour to fix the crank angle shaft if its near timing belt?? I have 07 santa fe 2.2 also

Hello. What i've done in this video has nothing to do with the timing. If your mechanic says he needs to take cambelt of, then will be at least 3.3 hours of labour. I dont understand what "crankshaft angle" is about, so cant advise any further (belt skipped a tooth?!?). If you think you are being hustled by that garage, ask a second opinion somewhere else. Best of luck.

I've sent an email re my hyundai santa fe 2008 2.2 engine. The engine stalled while I was driving. The garage fitted a sensor CKP. Is this correct as I am a bit wary of driving it stalled on a busy motorway. I've never had any problems with it before.

Hello. There is no way of me knowing if thats ok. Sensor failure can do that, stall the engine while driving, though uncomon. If the garage thought that was the issue, im sure it was. If you have any doubts take it to a different garage and ask theyr opinion. Sorry, but you wont find the answer on the internet, youll most likely find but "mechanics" talking to keep theyr mouth moving.
