Welcome to my MGB "Crap to Cream" journey. Decided to carry out a restoration of a 1977 MGB which is going to be converted from rubber bumper to chrome bumper.
The MG has been stripped over the last 12 to 15 months and is now ready for a body shop, something I'm working on, prices are vastly different very much depending on the paint shops workload.
This is my restoration, not looking to produce a concours car just a project for my retirement. I'm not going down to the split pin v nyloc nut level of originality, it's just as I want to do it.
Something for subscribers and KZfaq viewers to enjoy and if some people get something out of me doing this ground up restoration my work here is done.
If there are any specific parts of the restoration that are of particular interest that aren't on any of the future videos please let me know in the comments., I might be able to accommodate. Enjoy

There are very few quality restoration shops for classic British cars and even fewer home rebuilds. Good to see this kind of work taking place.

Afternoon Robert, thank you for your comment, yeap this one will be a long journey, I've actually been asked to go back to my previous employment as an Engineer part time which is a nice cash incentive however takes time away from what I really want to be doing.

Gday Martyn - I'm Aussie living in Calgary Alberta with a 65 MGB Roadster and will be keenly following your progress. Looks like you have alot a very good workshop setup for your journey! Peace and health

Hi There, this is going to be a bit of a trip, you are welcome to come along. Having a good workshop set-up is important as you would appreciate. The final colour is going to be the Mazda pearl red, a deep ruby red colour, just seems to tick all the boxes except the "being original" one :) The shell should be going away in the next month or two and be back early Jan 2023, every body is just so busy nothing is quick, nobody wants to do resto work everyone seems fixated on the quick fix insurance work.

Hi Larry, so am I to be honest, retirement is a great enabler. As long as people get something out of this I’m good 👍

I love watching the restoration process on the mgb's. However I bought one brand new in June of 73. I still have it today it looks like a one to two year old car in excellent shape. I'm just wondering what it would be worth. I still have the original price sticker for it $ $3,695

Significantly more than what you paid for it I suspect, my paint job alone is costing AU$13k

Hi Rudolf, something to be aware of when you embark on this journey regarding the V8 option, if you are thinking of putting the V8 in an MGB you will need to watch for the body flex due to the additional power and torque. On the early MGB V8's when you "put your foot into it" coming out of a bend on occasion the door used to fly open due to the body flex. This was on vehicles that had possibly a low catch area on the door mechanism, it was rare but it did happen. Getting an engineering cert or what ever you do in Sweden I would check on that side of things before going down this track.

@@CrapToCream Thanks a lot! I've found some online info that working with a MGB built from Sep 1976 makes it a bit "easier". Radiator forward, engine mounts, tunnel for the transmission etc. Also got the "How to give your MGB V8 power by Roger Williams". Everything so far is just a paper tiger 😀 Best Regards Rudolf Abelin Mechanical Engineer

Hello Martyn, I am finishing up some projects so I can start a KZfaq channel with a 1928 Maorgan Aero RIP GN Special and I know how daunting it is to do that first video. You did a great job if this one was it for you. I am a new Subscriber so We can stay in touch. My next build is an MG Magnette k# supercharged but that is a way off.

Hi John, Appreciate the comments, yes this was my first series as such I had done a couple of short "explanation" vids which seemed to go down quite well. I'm not a big editor and I prefer to do things and then explain what I did and the issues or learnings I had, I tend to skip through vids of people turning spanners all the time however some do give excellent commentary whilst doing the vids, not my gig. Best things I've done to date, took a lot of pictures when I was taking things apart, bought a really good electrical manual in colour and kept the old wiring harnesses to refer back to. Welcome to the journey.

@@CrapToCream Thank you my friend. I really have to find a good manual that explains how to rebuild and repair the gearbox or transmission of an MGB. If you know of a good one.
