Original: Creepy Cortex stares into your soul and watches your every step. Remaster: Manic Cortex gets furious as he watches your progress. Not as creepy, but still kinda unsettling. Only his character model is much more illuminated.

This level is a good example of why the og trilogy is still arguably preferable to N Sane( which is still a great package). Not only the music, but it lacks in darkness and atmosphere, it's a far cry from the Crash 1 level

This particular level isn't as good as the original, but the game overall is far superior to the PS1 version. If you set the graphics and the music aside, you'll see that what really matters is gameplay; the lack of save slots on the PS1 is what kills the experience overall. If you want to play a game properly with-or without-the extra content, then the updated save slots here are the way forward; that goes for any game!

there are three things they could have done to improve this level. 1. use the uncompressed version of the original theme. 2. add way more rust to all of the metal. 3. change the images of cortex to be more dimly lit and completely static apart from the eyes which follow crash around the room.

They got the look down pat. But I gotta say the remake of the music is horrible. I remember this level back in the day being creepy as HELL because of the music. If you haven't played the original look up the original song man. Plus the Cortex on the monitor in the original was a lot spookier too.

brunobelz Crash 1 was the creepiest game of the series. Lost City and Sunset Vista as well as Temple Ruin, Jaws of Darkness and Toxic Waste were the creepiest.

Because now Cortex is more crazy and goofy than creepy as in the original was, remasted Cortex is a mix between the original and Twinsanity (the goofy part)

Although I believe they can take the Cortex monitors up a notch, this level is still creepy, as inside a blacked out space station in a middle of nowhere...

Those images of Cortex on the monitors used to scare me when I was younger. It added to the atmosphere of the level.

@TheAlexGamer it's not a nitpick, it's an opinion. I respect the fact that you like the crash series (so do i) and i know the fact that you and many others including myself are sick of the 'real nitpickers' which are the ones who obsess over stupid details like "the font is different" or "the colour of the walls are different". but my point is i'm not nitpicking, overall i am very happy how this game has turned out but for some parts i'm not a huge fan of some of the decisions VV have made: for example the new music for this level, it seems they like toned it down for the sake of it not being scary even though that was it's original purpose in the original game(yes, VV can do whatever they want, but it happens to be that i can think for myself and decide what i do and don't like).

Victor Johansson Vaara In my opinion this isn't creepy. VV prolly just didn't want to spook the shit out of the younger players so they toned it down. (Same with the temple levels) It looks pretty though in terms of graphics. But I'd prolly stick with the original if I had to choose. The original version had this silent hill vibe. Just Cortex's blank face, the music...

Its only for the colored gems you get only one shot, the other gems are easy except some require colored gems to get. But thats how they made the colored gems a challenge to get, slippery climb is a nightmare though... So good luck with that if you can do slippery climb again... I couldn't even do slippery climb on PS1, the other colored gems are fun for me though :)

This was the hardest stage on the first crash bandicoot. It took me ten tries to finally beat it.

I've gotta say, this is the level that I am dissapointed with the most. I think for most levels they absolutely nailed it, but this one just does not feel right for me at all. Especially that music, it's nowhere near as good as in the original, which is a shame because most of the music in the Trilogy sounds great. And yeah, the monitors just make Cortex look goofy instead of intimidating like in the original. This level truly scared me as a kid, and I feel like the tone of this isn't the same at all.

The original atmosphere was more quite, which made the TNT boxes echo more when they exploded.

"Break every box without dying to earn a special gem" What does the mean? Is there really extra gems you can get wihtout dying?

In the original you have to break all the crates without dying to get the gem. They've now changed it a little, in a level where you get a clear/white gem you don't have to worry if you die. But in a level where you get a colored gem you have to not die at all and break all the crates. The gem you get in this level is the orange/gold gem so it's kinda classed as a special gem.

ehhhh they ruined this whole level. The atmosphere in the OG was " I'm watching you...." The atmosphere in this one feels more " get back to work " ! the game is still great though.
