My Goooooooooood! I've been looking for this song for over 30 years. Last time I listened to this song was when I was around 14 and now I am 41. My God thank you so much for this treasure found. It's easier to grab some bees with honey than sugar. Disregarding an entire section of people and disregarding their concerns isn't going to net you many fans. This renditions is too timely and very steeped in it's cheap Americana-crash rash. Easy to shit on a concept when it represents an entire country of unwilling participants? CTD has always been reactionary crap.

The arrangement is very true to the original by the British band XTC (recorded only 2 years prior) including the 'Let's begin' nuance, the main difference is Ellen's voice. One year later, they covered also another XTC song "All You Pretty Girls" (originally from 1984 album The Big Express) on a tribute album, helping XTC out when they faced recording obstructions imposed by the recording company. You can hear it too here on the Dummies channel.

This used to play alllllllllllllll the time as I was growing up in the 90s. Probably because I'm from Winnipeg, and that's where the CTD are from. The older I get, the more I love this song.

I love the harmony's created between Ellen and Brad! Such an amazing song. I'm 24, and I spent a few years in Canada for school where I was first exposed to the Crash Test Dummies. They don't get a lot of air time in the US which is too bad.

The creators of the song originally said they weren't referencing JFK specifically but rather various events. you can tell with some of the lyrics they are indeed referencing JFK. Had him nailed to a chunk of wood. He died grinning on live tv. I searched for this song because some random memory was triggered in my head. I was a kid and my dad came home from work and was telling me about this song his coworker showed him called Peter Pumpkinhead. At first the coworker thought it was funny and dumb and easy to make fun of but then my dad really listened to the lyrics and was very moved by them, so he came home and told me all about this song. But I never heard it anywhere. I just remembered it from what he told me that it had the line "hooray for Peter Pumpkinhead" and told of wonderful things this person did. Well some 25 years later I have found it and it was every bit as good and as profound as advertised. Thanks, dad.

Jeez what a cover. Just overall solid musicians with excellent lead and backup vocals. i vaguely remember this from dumb and dumber, but I obviously didn’t appreciate it then. She’s got such an incredible pitch, my god. I love her choices, just flawless. And I love how they cut to her feet turning in at the climax, another great little artistic touch. And there’s something so alluring with her, I couldn’t keep my eyes off her. What a rocker babe. How was I not obsessed with her in the 90’s?? Great work CTD. 5/5 super underrated cover. Made it their own.

Both XTC and CTD did right by this brilliant song and both made very cinematic videos to take their songs to the next level. XTC's video mirrors JFK's assassination and relationship with Marilyn Monroe. Crash Test Dummies video reprises Jeff Daniel's role as Harry in Dumb and Dumber and has elements of Life of Brian by Monty Python. Spectacular art all the way 'round.

Get to see these guys tonite...up close and personal...for free! Gotta love Peachfest in Penticton every August. Over the years we've pretty much seen a who's who of Canadian classic rock all for free, including Kim Mitchell, April Wine, Doug and the Slugs, Powder Blues, Trooper, Stampeders, 54-40 and many more. Woohoo its the Crash Test Dummies tonite after the Snowbirds show!

OMG. I've been listening to this for donkeys years and have always assumed that the singer was male. Not only that, I didn't realize that the song was written by Andy Partridge of XTC and have just heard _that_ version. These guys (and gal) do it total justice!

@@dylanwhostones No, they released it in 1992. This isn't hard to do a simple web search, you won't find it on their 1982 album "English Settlement." It's on their 1992 album, "Nonsuch."

I had such a crush on Ellen Reid at the Selkirk comp high school, but she never knew it .Seeing her with the Crash test dummies up front singing such a great song let's you see why I had such a crush she was absolutely gorgeous.
