Crater Lake Oregon: National Park Crater Lake is the only National Park in Oregon. The lake got its start nearly 8,000 years ago when a cluster of volcanoes, known as Mount Mazama, erupted. The 12,000 foot high summit area collapsed forming a large caldera. Smaller eruptions followed in over time water began to fill the caldera creating the lake. It was the biggest eruption in North America in half a million years spewing rock and ash over a land area two and a half times as big as Texas!
Here are the best things to do at Crate Lake National Park: www.nps.gov/crla/planyourvisi...

I visited Crater lake in June of 2019 it was just awesome. I had a bad hip and I couldn't hike down to the bottom I sure wish I could have. It was explained to me and it's writing on plaque say that the mountain collapsed from its own weight I went straight down into the Earth like two or three miles because of the volcanic rock that was very porous could not hold up its own weight. They say it was an explosion that created it but it was not an explosion or an eruption per se it was just a collapse

Spectacular footage and documentary, very happy to like and suscribe. I have a few questions if I may: Did you do the tour clockwise starting near Crater Village? For reference, how long would it take to bike nonstop around the crater at an relaxed speed? And how long is the trail to the pinnacles? Did you land on Phantom Ship? Is it possible?
@RockTheParkOfficial
@RockTheParkOfficial 3 жыл бұрын
We biked clockwise around the lake. The distance around the lake is about 33-miles. It would be hard to estimate how long that might take you as there would likely be several stops you'd want to make along the way. We did not land on Phantom Ship and to our knowledge, that is not allowed. Can't really remember distance of the trail, unfortunately. Maybe a mile or so out and back?!
@pablol5472
@pablol5472 3 жыл бұрын
@@RockTheParkOfficial yeah, per the research I did Phanton Ship is off limits, Pinnacles trail is one mile long and an easy paced nonstop round tour by bike takes 4-5 hours in good weather. Too bad there is no bike rental in Crater Village :-(

The explosion of Mount Mazama was so massive it was heard on the east coast. We are talking a mountain volcano that was over 12,000 feet in elevation lost nearly 5,000 feet of elevation. Imagine a explosion with such force to destroy such a enormous amount of rock and debris. The debree field from Mount Mazama has been found as far as a couple states away.

The only bad news is that too many people show up missing in this area. They just disappear. There's a lot of speculation. Some people think that hikers get to close to the edge of the cliffs and slip down to their death 2,000 feet below at the lake level. Still others claim a hairy monster is the culprit. And then there are those who believe a serial killer has worked the area for 30-40 years.

The world is getting warmer? It is about the same as it was in the 1930s when we had dust bowels. If you look at the unadjusted data (you know, not doctored) it was actually warmer then than it is now. It was also warmer in the Medieval Warm Period, Roman Warm Period and, of course, the Holocene Optimum which occurred during the Bronze Age. How do you think Hannibal crossed the Alps to attack Rome? Do you think they had Columbia gear? The day sea levels stop rising and the glaciers start to grow we are headed back into an ice age and this interglacial is over. Maybe you should stick to the topic and spare us all the virtue signalling?
