@@SupersuMC There were other extinction level events before that (although it’s not clear which ones were caused by impacts). Some bigger craters may be from a time way before that, maybe even before the first single cell organisms.

There were possibly bigger ones before that, also crater size depends on both size and speed of impacting object. Chicxulub was on the lower end of extinction level events.

Earth got hit by a planet 4,5 billion years ago and absorbed parts of it. You can still find the remains in the deeper parts of earth's mantle and even the core of our moon is made of it. Must have been a hell of an impact

if the impactor hits the surface at an angle, it leave an oblong crater rather than a circle. Just, that would require an asteroid of dwarf planet size for it to survive the extra time in atmosphere.

Probably a result of so much of Australia not having serious geologic disruptions in a long time--it's generally regarded as the "oldest" continent. Easier to preserve craters when there's not a ton of widespread volcanic activity or tectonic plates crunching together or ripping apart

@@sumreensultana1860 Yeah I know, though it was visible for a while, also matter what you call Jupiter's surface. Anyway objects that have the ability to do larger then 4000 KM are more likely to shatter the surface of terrestrial planets, thus not leaving a crater

@@Abrold Lmao the surface is the outer part we see, something doesn't have to be solid to be a surface, also the farther you go down the more compact the surface is, to a point where it would crush almost anything, but good luck even getting to that part. Tell me if I threw you at Jupiter what would happen? Exactly the same thing that happen to Shoemaker-Levy 9 there would be a impact mark.

Another incredible video! I have to admit...once the bigger craters showed up, I had chills. Especially once the Chicxulub showed up...and was quickly overshadowed. And to think, Earth has most likely had much larger craters...but due to weathering and plate tectonics, they have disappeared. Many thanks and congratulations on the excellent work you put into producing these great videos!

Oh! Thanks for including Estonia! But we have a bigger crater called Kaali. It's 110 meters in diameter and much better visible. =) Still interesting to see a lesser known Ilumetsa (The beauty of the forest) crater. =)

Great video! Another intriguing crater, if anyone is interested, is the Rheasilvia crater on the asteroid Vesta. It's 505 km across, but the really cool thing about it is that its central peak is the tallest mountain in the Solar System-22.5 km tall, even slightly taller than Olympus Mons.

Good video, as usual. If you update it, consider adding the roughly estimated time (perhaps in BCE) when each Earth-bound event happened, or offer a graph or table so viewers can see if there was some pattern and what might the odds be for being hit by something large in the near future. Even more, perhaps add the estimated size of the object when it made impact. Even more scary!

South Africa coming in strong with it's craters. I've been to the Tswaing Crater many years ago and the experience was great. A lot of info was given on the crater as well as other impact craters here in S.A along with the rest of the world. As for the video, well it's just another awesome video from MBS 👌

Up here in Manitoba, Canada we have West Hawk Lake which was formed by a meteor impact eons ago. It's 115 meters / 377 feet deep and popular with scuba divers.

When I visited the Barringer Crater last year I learned that for the longest time craters were being miss identified as extinct volcanos way back in the day.
