Crato, a remarkable village located in the upper Alentejo, in the district of Portalegre. It is on the north-south axis that connects Nisa to Estremoz, on the national road N245 that passes historic towns and cities that are worth visiting: Nisa, Alpalhão, Flor da Rosa, Crato, Alter do Chão, Fronteira, Sousel and Estremoz. Crato is one of those villages that stopped in time. Its center is relatively small and you can walk around it. In it we have several streets with medieval houses that still keep their Gothic arch door... . Some are perpendicular to the facade of the street, others are the facade itself, creating a game of light and shadow that together with the colors used on the edges of the facade give an indescribable charm to each street we see.
Then we have the streets with wealthy houses and urban palaces, some of which currently house municipal services, museums and even commerce. Vila do Crato is related to the Flor da Rosa Monastery, which is the new headquarters of the Order of Hospitallers, which was initially in Leça do Balio.
