From Steve Gaines's "Okie Special" album.
Come to think of it, I don't think that Lynyrd Skynyrd has played this song in over 40 years!

One of the best things Ronnie did was to welcome Cassie Gaines brother into the Lynyrd Skynerd band. Steve was born to be a Skynyerd, and Ronnie knew that. They knew a little.

Music is never a competition even among the greats, however Steve Gaines was or is one of the most complete musicians to ever play. Hughie Thomasson from the "Outlaws" among the best. SRV -- they all have something to offer, the list can be long, music is bigger than us ALL !!!
@BetterSoDressage
@BetterSoDressage 9 жыл бұрын
+12groney Steve Gaines and SRV, are both iconic. Their music touched us all!! There's no right or wrong, loser or winner... as Charlie Starr from BlackBerry Smoke said about their latest album, it's kind of a joke to think, as an artist, that you win or you loose in this business. You get out there and play for the people that like what you're all about, your music represents you. I for one, have so much respect for singer/songwriters, even if I don't particularly like their genre or delivery. Musical phenoms like SRV, Steve Gaines, and the hundreds like them that have rocked our souls aren't to be in competition, they are to be savored and respected for their impact on not only us individually, but on music evolution as a whole. IMHO, Charlie Starr is currently the most underrated talent out there~laying it all on the stage for those that are searching for real musicians carrying the torch on .

Everytime I see Steve's grave I think the world is so unfair place. He was meant to play music all his life, which should last way way longer. He always had fun playing, he was always so happy on stage. And then one day everything turned into tragedy. That's surreal. He gave interview just few days before the crash, and he said it was just the beginning!

One of the things that also needs to be said , one of the , if not the best slide guitarist in the world . Check him out on the live version of “T for Texas” recorded in Germany I believe . This is straight up a song drenched in soul and feeling. I like this better than the Street Survivors version because it has that bar/garage band, sloppy, soulful, played from the heart vibe. Of course the Skynyrd polished version is also top notch, in fact it has always been my favorite cut on Street Survivors! Dang I wish the plane crash never happened, I would love to hear where Steve Gaines would be at now musically! I has tickets in hand to see Skynyrd at Cobo Hall Detroit that was scheduled two weeks post the plane crash. Sigh...........

I grew up in Grove, born in '60 so I always had this huge awareness of Crawdad. Too young to go to bars. I have a few questions for the Miami folk: 1). Was Slugger Trask a keyboardist for Crawdad and is he in this video? 2). Is the bassist with the long blonde hair Jacque Garoutte? (I always thought it was Jack Garoot). I knew of him but never met him. 3). There is a pic with a guy with Steve in an outdoor lounge chair around 2:00-2:04. Is that Glenn ______?? Glenn always liked to make you think he was as good as Steve. Glenn ____???? 4). John Moss: AKA Moose Moss? Also laid carpet? Where is this guy. 5). Is Ace Moreland in the pic? 6) So cool you guys did this!

Some y'all prolly know who The ARS was. Well, RVZ was their biggest fan. Somebody earlier mentioned hearing a Steely Dung influence here but I'd say it's clearly an ARS influence who's first record dates to '73. Ronnie heard that smooth burn barrel aged whiskey aftertaste in SG's sound and knew it would give LS an edge in the studio they had lost since Al Kooper vamoosed. Skyns always had the live chops to lick any band but Ed was their best studio pro and SG came in and opened a whole new can of sound! ARS were no slouch live but were incredible in the studio. Both smooth and lowdown. Shoulda been many more LARGE TIMEs w/ARS and LS/SG. That 'ol big bird that took Holly, Valens, Redding, RVZ, and The Gaines don't allow do overs. ❤💔❤️

TheHeathinvader - I have seen most incarnations of the LSB as of 10 years ago . No the current band and others have not performed this Steve Gaines song . Reality is it is not really a Skynyrd type song .When it was released on "Street Survivors " Tom Dowd really did a different mix and slight modification fit to the Skynyrd sound and feel . This version you entered to you-tube is more of a Memphis sound and production . Ain't no good life here is still a great version from Steve Gaines more laid back and a more progressive rock jazz vib. Cheers
