The descent is definitely more dangerous than the ascent! It must be hard to be cognizant of the descent though when the summit is so close...I can only imagine.

@soft_cardigan Definitely not crappy speakers. It is very quiet compared to most videos. Some people have worse hearing than others.

I can hear it ok with my volume cranked up but telling people to get better hearing aids isn't a great way to respond to there objectively being something about OP's audio settings that make the vid so much quieter than the average volume lol

Unfortunately with most of the high skilled professionals, great experience also brings over-confidence. When the fear factor is reduced, that's when rookie mistakes tend to happen.

I can climb Denali blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back. And I don't feel it necessary to prove it to anyone 😏. I'm stayin right here 🤣

I've seen a few instances of people getting their gators snagged. I wonder why there isnt like a patch of leather or something unsnaggable on the inside of each gator.

Essentially I'd say you are correct. 17,200' to Denali Pass "historically" has been dangerous mostly to those using ski poles instead of an ice ax. One slip and no good ability to self-arrest may have them sliding down a long way. Yes, some have died there. Precip OR hard blowing snow could really obscure seeing the established route, + exhaustion, + fear (with group all split up) etc.

I suspect there was very little evidence of their trek up, especially early May when they would have been among the first to attempt the summit. The Autobahn is notoriously icy (it gets its name from a group of German climbers that fell to their deaths in the 1980's or 90's). It's hard to know whether he had the skills to traverse the Autobahn alone, but it is heartbreaking that he stopped there within sight of high camp. That being said, I agree that Denali Pass was probably the worst possible place to wait on the entire route above high camp. Even when the rest of the mountain is calm, the wind can be screaming there.

they all have glaciers, they mention it in every video since they are one of the most dangerous parts of the mountain

Resume is usually necessary because someone made a mistake. Thank goodness these men don't have to be victims of your harsh judgment.

@@michaelbryant2071 willful negligence is not a mistake. If you purposely try to summit when conditions are terrible, that's all on you and you shouldnt expect others to put their lives at risk rescuing you for your own negligence.

I agree. If a person I is truly living their life according to God's design, in this day and age, there are enough challenges. Keeping ourselves and family out of the everyday drama in this society is enough for me. I don't even think that we should seek out those highs - that we have a right to take chances with our life.

You are far more likely to die doing virtually anything else, people die everyday and aren't pushing any boundary's or thrill seeking just run of the mill accidents. Me personally I would rather intelligently push my own physical limits for the freedoms that it affords and not dwell on the specific fact that I can die doing it. I mountaineer, rock climb, scuba dive, motorcycle, surf, raft, hike, mountain bike, basketball, and you can die doing all of them but the statistics say that I will be more likely to die driving to go do one of those activities. All of those pursuits make up a major component to happiness in life and all of them have given me so much that getting hurt or the possibility that I could die doing them is worth the risk given that we are all going to die. Everybody lives their lives differently but me personally don't think I have any right to tell someone what they should or shouldn't do based on my own comfort level.
