In this video I explore the lesser-known gem from the legendary Bethwaite era of the late 1980s! While the 29er, B14, 49er, 49erFX, and 18 Foot Skiffs are well-known, what about other boats from that iconic time? In this video, I embark on an exciting journey as I acquire a unique 1980s High-Speed Project Trimaran from Facebook Marketplace for just $150, sight unseen.
Join me as I meticulously unravel the mysteries of this incredible boat, delving into its design and features. This particular multihull is likely the last of its kind still sailing globally, adding an extra layer of fascination to its story. Don't miss out on this exclusive exploration of a rare find that takes us back to the golden age of Australian Sailing Innovation!

I love that you have bought this thing. KZfaq lets me vicariously live out things I'd love to do as a pom living in a 1 bedroom flat in the northern hemisphere. If this really is the last one of these, Julian posts on sailing anarchy and might enjoy this creation hitting the water again.

Thanks, it is pretty cool what we get to experience through KZfaq! I started a thread in multihull anarchy about the boat, a guy called Aaron has one as well that he’s had for years, he had a lot of good suggestions. So this might be the second last one in the world!

I know, I’m thinking gybing might be a little easier than tacking, getting stuck in irons might be a very interesting experience!

@@TomStuchberySailing-eg9vr I think you might have found the one boat trickier to turn than the Musto:)

Don't know it - no way! The article you show from Performance Sailing was written by my brother. He thought is was a great boat. I used to live on a waterfront at Seaforth and would watch Frank with his High Speed Project go really slowly. He was trying lifting sails, strange wing things pivoted on a stub mast and just go no where - I would have sailed a Manly Junuior faster most of the time, then all of a sudden it would go fast and then capsize and stop. So in the end Frank went more mainstream - he pushed the concept of a skiff as far as it would go and coupled it with a trimaran. It was a rocket, a great boat for the early 80s. I don't know why it didn't get better known but I guess speed was not that important to the public. About 2005 I was talking a little to Frank and asked him about the HSP. He said he had one in his shed and would be okay with me grabbing it. I was keen but in the end it didn't happen, so there may be one still in a shed near Northbridge somewhere. I would love to sail one one day, they are up on my list along with an FD and a TP52.

Wow, how cool! I read about all the earlier versions of the HSP in the Higher Performance Sailing book, it’s great to hear from someone that saw the development in person. Someone on sailing anarchy has one as well, so there’s at least two left in the world. I ordered some materials today to start getting this one back on the water, stay tuned!
