Great! People forget what the music scene was like in 75 / 76 when Cavan were peaking. Full of stuff like 10cc's "I'm Not In Love" and similar dross. Bands like Doctor Feelgood were the exception, but Cavan appealed to disaffected adolescent's (like me), with their high octane anthems . I can understand why Joe Strummer was influenced, as Cavan played with the energy of a punk band, and if you listen to 'She's The One To Blame', it's classic Ramones, which makes you wonder if they heard the 'Crazy Rhythm' LP in 1975. I reckon they did!

I wouldn't describe 10cc as dross!!!!

Clash weren't anymore punk music than the early beatles were, they just sounded like an unrehearsed band, but aimed for just enough to be commercial.. Around the time you mentioned I believe showaddywaddy were hugely successful and popular. Probably the only revival rock and roll style band that were at the time. By mid 76 uk audiences were growing tired of those rock&roll act's, with the exception of showaddywaddy.. The late 60s early 70s were gone. The same couldn't be said for many of the Dutch speaking countries where failed uk rock&roll bands were successfully touring and getting the odd top 30 top 40 hit. Many headed back to the UK around 79/80 when punk was waining and rockabilly along with new wave was making inroads again. This band weren't really in the right category to to make it big, they weren't the stray cats, rocky sharp , matchbox, jets league. They were more like mid 50s American rockabilly that evolved into rock and roll.. Early Elvis johnny burnett carl perkins, Roy orbison.. Who all found much greater fame after rockabilly

Agreed but the common argument for these types Is to slate massively successfull bands as commercial.. Which Is exactly what well known punk bands were, soft enough to have commercial appeal yet still sounding rough.. Nobody enters this game without wanting to make a lot of money and they all want to eventually be established with a big following so they can charge higher ticket price's.. Most of the so called anti establishment bands from the past, now live in leafy suburbia hoping to get on the new years honors list and eventually be part of the establishment they were originally against because they wanted money and fame

Certainly famous amongst the rock n roll, rockabilly fraternity. They were the beginnings of the rock n roll revival and still in demand in many parts of Europe and UK conventions. I've only been to one in 89 at Battersea when they were on with Freddie Fingers Lee and CSA. I still think Elvis' Sun recordings were the best rockabilly sound.
