Performance notes:
While William Rimmer, the composer, is most noted for his marches, he also wrote a number of pieces to feature cornet. This is a polka, very much in the style which was in vogue in the early Twentieth Century. This arrangement reduces the full band arrangement to just a standard brass quintet with soloist.
The tempo may be rubato throughout the slow opening solo section. This rubato may be both through larger affectations of tempo itself, and smaller gestures by the soloist which do not directly affect the tempo. The metronome markings are suggestions only, and the soloist may choose to alter these as he or she wishes. As wished by the players, the tutti interludes may be taken at a quicker tempo, and this is even specifically noted in the section at measure 68.

Fantastic, I remember sitting next to someone playing this when I was younger. Great job! Both my instruments in one great recording, I really enjoyed it plus the reading along helps.

This is wonderful and you are so talented. The piano part is also very good. I know that this is brass and you do so well but we should also comment on the piano. She does a great job with it. Now that you're done - relax and just know it was great. Thanks.

Thank you very much Sandra, non of our work would be possible without Birute. Having her record the piano parts is what allows all of these videos to be made. Very glad yo hear that you enjoyed the piece and playing. Thank you for your support!

Back around '61 my band director found out that I couldn't triple tongue. He gave me Clarke's Stars in a velvety sky for solo contest. Good music for an 8th grader on the euphonium. You are a master at well measured triplets.

You have changed your recording set up and thank you for the change. The clarity of the piano and your euphonium is much better and much more life like. Thanks you for the changes.. The performance was fantastic also and I agree your pianist does a fantastic job. I hate to say this because it will come across wrong but once again you gave another perfect performance. You just make seem to be so easy, when I know it is not.

Do you use some sort of instrument support while playing. The instrument stays so still as you play. Wonderful work.
@Matonizz

Yes I do, it's called ErgoBrass Support System. I believe they still should have a discount for my viewers with code "Matonizz". It's the best system currently on the market, although not perfect. It will save shoulders and make breathing much easier but it will come at expense of control of embouchure/mouthpiece connection. I find it super useful when playing chamber music and probably prefer to not use it when I play something more technically challenging like a solo. Worth checking out though :)

@@jovensinvestidores5139 We could technically make that happen, but it would require custom offer + there will be shipping price added up as well as whatever import taxes your country might have. Hopefully after this performance you were able to talk properly. My teachers recommended not to practice to long on tonging, especially triplets.
@Matonizz
@Matonizz Жыл бұрын
I've got that tongue strength built from the harsh eastern European accent :D With all seriousness, this arrangement makes it very comfortable and manageable to do this. Very well written range and plenty of rest between each sprint. As for practicing, will all depend on your technique and endurance of your tongue muscle (genioglossus). If you fatigue the muscle, the tongue will start loosing speed. If you start compensating for that loss of speed with tension, you will develop bad habits. However, if you don't regularly fatigue that muscle, you won't build endurance either. I see your teachers point, but my way of teaching it would be making sure that student knows exactly how the articulation mechanics work and how to recognize when it's time to stop. I personally practice tongue the most in comparison to all the other fundamentals just because it's so hard to make real progress on it and it deteriorates extremely quickly once you stop practicing it. Hope that makes sense and thanks for you comment and support as usual!
