For twenty years I've been a fan, and they've continuously has had surprises. That's one of the things I absolutely love with Nightwish 🤗 You never know what to expect, at ALL 😁

Troy, the multiinstrumentalist appeard first on the 2007 Nightwish Record "Dark Passion Play" as an studio guest musician. Later he became a special guest at some of their live shows. But finally in 2013 he became a full member of the band.

Troy played the bagpipes for this song back when this song came out on the Imaginarium album. He was a quest performer and did studio work with the band and played in live shows. He became a permanent member of the band around the time Floor became a permanent member. The Wakken 2013 concert has Troy on stage so Nightwish started to grow and evolve around that time. Their new album is gonna be great. Can’t wait till it come out in a few days!!

One thing I love about Nightwish is that they can all do whatever the hell they want and have it be GOOD. Tuomas can write whatever he wants, Troy can play roughly 5 different instruments in different ways, Emppu on the guitar and Kai on the drums are very versatile, and Marco and Floor are chameleons who can do basically whatever they want instrumentally (in Marco's case) and vocally.

Check this out at Wacken 2013. Troy was there and formally joined right after, and it sounds very very similar. Part of Tuomas's genius is that even songs from the same album can vary drastically in tone and style. Noise and Harvest from the new album are completely different. I vote for Last Ride of the Day from Wacken or Seven Days to the Wolves from Wembley if you haven't seen it yet.

He is not playing bag pipes, but the Irish equivalent called uilleann pipes. The difference is that the uillean pipes use elbow-pumped bellows instead of a blowing piece and it sounds softer than the bag pipes.

Yep, every song is different. "Devil and the deep dark ocean" from Buenos Aires 18 is one the good oldies, a completely different sound again! btw not every recent song as that folk sound, just some of them.

I freaking love this song! It is from the Imagenerum album! I was on this tour in Germany and it was extraordenary! (Bt. Floor catched a cold on this tour! THAT is Floor by not beeing at 100% Just saying!) I love to see Floor dance! She has so mutch fun! I agree Troy added a whole new vibe to nightwish and it is awsome! Great reaction! If you want to see yet another side of Nightwish that really features Marco in an unusual way, you should add to your list "The Islander (Live at Tampere)."

Nice that you can still hear Anette's backing vocals while they are both singing. Sound good together.

Troy was asked at the same time as Floor. Before that he was used as a session musician, joining them in Studio when they needed some pipes. But he Connected so well With the rest in the band, and especially Tuomas so he was asked if he wanted to join them on tour. He also has a sideproject Tuomas and his wife Johanna(??). It's more experimental folk music..

In Wacken it was Troy and he was asked to join permanently the band the same time with Floor in June 2013. They hade to keep it as a secret though until officially announced on a later date.

This is quickly becoming my favorite show. So energetic and fun.

Troy was already with the band now and then when Tuomas needed him, but he was not a permanent member. He became a permanent member at the same time as Floor.

Troy was already there in the Wacken 2013 show... In fact he has been there ever since Imaginaerum, the album which featured this song. But it was around the time of the Wacken show that he became a permanent member of the band. So he has been with the band for like 8 years already. Btw this song was also played in the Wacken setlist, so you can see Troy there as well. The Buenos Aires version is just more fun to watch because of Floor dancing and the crowd jumping. It’s really party time here 😉.

This song is part of the Imaginaerum album from 2011 (Annette was the singer back then), Troy was not an official member of the band (he became one in 2013) and participated in this record as special guest with collaborations with uilleann pipes on track 5 (this song you are reacting to) and 13 (Imaginaerum); Tin whistle on tracks 1 (Taikatalvi), 8 (Turn Loose the Mermaids) and 10 (The Crow, the Owl and the Dove in which he also did vocals) ... and why not! more vocals for track 12 (Song of Myself).

Every member give something special to this band. Tarja era was more operatic and dark, Anette was more pop-rock and now Marco, Floor and Troy add new vibe. This is a reason for this difrents. They have so many talent. Nice reaction. Have a nice weekend.

My absolute favorite when it comes to Nightwish is The Poet and the Pendulum. But you need to know the background first, of the firing of Tarja, Tuomas' depression and so on. He went back to his parents and stayed there for a while, while recovering from depression and anxiety. He did commit suicide in the song, to cope mentally, and so he didn't have to do it in real life. There is a few recordings of this song, but I found one with lyrics, which helped me a lot. I think it is the one from Wembley 2016. Remember to keep tissues at hand while hearing this song.

I don't think there's any specific order, besides The Poet And The Pendulum that should be saved for when you know a bit more about the band and its history. Since you mentioned Marko's different sides, I suggest The Islander - Live at Tampere. It's an accoustic song and one of the rare songs Tuomas didn't write mostly by himself - it was actually composed by Marko (and performed by him in the show).

I was there and it was amazing! If I'm not wrong that was in November 2018, so it hasn't been two years yet :P. I think you may like Dead Boy's Poem from that same concert. It is a slow one, a ballad from the old days. It's one of those songs in which you can really listen and enjoy Floor's voice to the fullest.

Hey, my brother. Neal from NY here. Another great reaction, dude! You're so right, South American audiences are the bomb. I've seen it with the Stones, Rush and Nightwish. They really go nuts. And the band feeds off of it. I was a semi-professional drummer for many years until my back got too bad, and the more the audience is into it, the more the band feeds on it. It's a feedback loop. But hey, the audiences at Wacken are pretty cool too. North American audiences aren't nearly as awesome as Euro and South American ones. I guess you've heard that Troy was at Wacken. The pipes he plays are called Illyien pipes(the spelling is wrong but it's pronounced Illy-en). They're have a much warmer sound than Scottish pipes, not quite as shrill. If you want to hear Floor really growl, check out her other band Revamp. "Disdain" is a good one to check out. Anyway, cool reaction, bro. Have a good 'un!

Troy plays the Uilleann pipes as a guest artist on an older CD. He has done guest appearances on many CD's, but now he is an official member. Great reaction video again my friend! Be well and stay safe until next time. Peace!

For the whole history, Troy appeared for the first time in the album Dark Passion Play (for the songs The Islander and Last Of The Wild). The mood was so good between the group and him that they invited him for the tour. Tuomas wrote then many songs in the next album Imaginaerum (among it I Want My Tears Back) using uilean Pipes and flutes and many instruments because Troy can play so many instruments ^^ and sings too. And again the mood was so cool that he did the whole tour with the grouo, becoming like a true member, but not officially... Then the singer Annette Olson left the group (or got fired we don't know ^^) and they invited Floor Jansen to perform the last part of the tour ongoing (when you'll know a bit more the Nightwish songs, you should see the documentary "Please learn the set list in 48h"). Floor Jansen was not supposed to be the new official singer, even when they shot the concert live at Wacken. But the group was so happy with her that they announced that Floor was becoming the new official singer, and in the meantime Troy Donockley. They wanted to do the announcement before the live show came out in DVD because the group thought it was unfair to announce Floor and Troy as guests on the show if they already knew that they were official members of the group... Then they released the next album Endless Forms Most Beautiful from which you have the very inspiring masterpiece The Greatest Show On Earth, and here we are (and in a few days Human :|: Nature). But he is really good with many different instruments and I think it was good thing they asked him to join. He brings so many different elements with him. Try from their new album song "Harvest", Troy is singing that one. And again totally different type of NW song.

Troy Donokley is colaborating with Nightwish since 2007. Was not an official member but was a regular colaborator. Even he played a role in the Imaginaerum movie. By the way, folk element has been in the Nightwish music from the very beginning.

Troy was helping the band before he got a permanent member - Troy and Floor became permanent members in 2013, but Floor was actually replacing Anette during 2012 worldtour. You have to watch the 2 hour interview with Toumas: learn the setlist in 48 hours - telling the story, and showing the background and the conditions in which Floor a the rest of the band, found each other. This is a must do!! I know you have jumped to 2018, but I want you to go back to 2015, - Wembley Arena, and react to Shudder before the beautiful. This is how to start a concert with 82.000 people, going from zero to lightspeed in seconds. And as I wrote before, you have just scratched the surface of Nightwish's capabilities - you may be ready for some of their epic songs. From Wembley: The Greatest Show on Earth - 22 minutes that I promise you have never experienced before. That is a masterpiece.

Yeah, this song was written for the Imaginaerum album, and Troy was already playing the pipes as special guest. He actually started playing with nightwish in Dark Passion Play, and you can spot him in the Islander video playing pipes on a cliff. The Islander, is the first song featuring the pipes, and the first NW folk sounding song of a series (every album has at least one since DPP): after the Islander and I want my tears back, i recommend My Walden (which sounds like part 2 of the song you reacted to) and Harvest, the second single of the upcoming album Human:||:Nature. If you want hear something REALLY different just listen this one... :).

After the show , Floor went to Hollywood to audition for Wonderwoman 3 ...and guess what...she got it!!! 😊😊 out in 2023..😄

Troy was on the Wacken concert, but absent in the songs you’ve reacted to. He was a session player in the studio already in 2007, did some shows on the following tour, did the whole Imaginaerium tour 2012-13 before being asked to be a proper member of the band in the summer of 2013, the same day Floor got the same question. It was made official during the autumn.

Troy plays the bouzouki as well. He does it on one of their songs. It's a greek instrument the Irish have adopted for their folk music.

Troy did some recording for the Imaginaerum album I believe. That was while Anette was the singer. I think he toured with them for that tour, and then Floor took over mid tour. After the tour is when Floor and Troy officially became band members. After the Wacken show in 2013. Watch me be wrong and find out Troy did the recording for Dark Passion Play too. I haven't really followed that period closely. I do like a lot of the songs from both of the albums though. As long as I don't watch the music videos and see those darn creepy clowns I'm fine.

Hey, after the song’s end you questioned when Troy joined the bnad and you thought that he wasn’t there during Wacken 2013, when Showtime, Storytime was recorded. Well, Troy has working with Nightwish since 2007 when the album Dark Passion Play was released. But he became officially part of Nightwish in 2015, along with the release of Endless Forms Most Beautiful. And I Want My Tears Back is from the album Imaginaerum (2011). Also, Floor joined the band in 2012, right in the middle of the Imaginaerum Tour, because the second singer Annette stopped (if you want to know more about that specific case, there’s a lot to find about it). So, to answer your question, Troy worked with Nightwish since 2007 and also at Wacken 2013, but he is part of the band since 2015.

The entire 2018 Buenos Aires concert is just as good as Waken 2013. You can't go wrong with any song. Heavier songs are 10th Man Down, Slaying the Dreamer, and Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. But if you want to be placed into a hypnotic trance by Floor, Dead Boys Poem is a must!

Last of the Wilds at Wacken ‘13 might also be a good song to react to! It’s an instrumental, but it’s so good and it features a lot of Troy and his pipes!

Timeline-wise, this song was on the same album as Storytime (Imaginaerum from 2011), and they performed it at Wacken 2013. So while it is different, it's not a "new" direction. Troy was at the 2013 concert but was only on stage for 3 songs; Nemo, Last of the Wilds, and this song. Troy has sort of been with the band since 2007 (Dark Passion Play album), or that's when Tuomas started involving Troy in some Nightwish songs. Just after the 2013 tour ended, Tuomas/Nightwish announced that Troy had been an 'honorary' member of the band for so long that he was now (in 2013) an 'official' member. So really the album coming out in a week will be the 4th album Troy has been on, and second as an official member. I wouldn't call him a new member, anymore than you'd call Floor new by this point (they were both made official members at the same time). As for next, well I always recommend Storytime, Everdream, and Song of Myself. Since you've done the 1st two of those, I'd say it's time for Song of Myself (Wacken 2013).
