On 23 June 1942 the German Ministry of Armaments proposed a 1,000-tonne tank - the Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte. Adolf Hitler expressed interest in the project and the go-ahead was granted.
In December, Krupp designed an even larger 1,500 tonne vehicle - the P. 1500 Monster. The P. 1500 was to be 25 m (82 ft) long, weighing 1800 tonnes, with a 250 mm hull front armor, four Daimler-Benz MB.501 diesel aero engines, and an operating crew of over 100 men.
This "land cruiser” would have been a self-propelled platform for the 800mm Schwerer Gustav K (E) gun artillery piece - the heaviest artillery weapon ever constructed by shell weight and total gun weight, and the largest rifled cannon by calibre.

I gotta admit , the germans had wild designs for these tanks , but the landkreuzerp.1500 monster is insane , didn't even know that monstrosity existed.
@xshullaw

Unlike the Ratte, which had some thought given into and a few parts built or at least prototyped, the Monster was purely conceptual and was mainly for propaganda, like a few other "massive tank" designs that "existed" near the end of the war.

By 44 German tanks were being destroyed at such a pace that bunkers on tracks were being designed. What really hurt was the loss of trained crews for tanks. Had the Germans built more PzIV’s and maybe a few Tigers and gone for quantity instead of over-engineered thyroidal bunkers on tracks things, fortunately for us, might have been different. The amount of steel wasted on gaining a small local advantage wasted precious fuel and usually ended with a breakdown and not enough infantry to exploit. Fun to look at though.

@@kons37flyingreaperoldchann21 it’s “a meter” not “an meter”. Let me teach you this, it’s very simple and it will improve your English. If a word begins with a vowel, these are: a,e,i,o,u,y, then you use “an” for example: an oven an English breakfast If a word starts with a consonant: b,c,d,etc... you use “a” for example: a car a person If you’re not sure if it’s a vowel or a consonant, try pronouncing three of them in a row. You can’t pronounce three consonants, but you can pronounce three vowels. For example: You can pronounce: aaa You can’t pronounce: ttt If you don’t pronounce a consonant, it doesn’t count, like “An honorable man” as the guy replying said. Then the letter next to it counts. But this is confusing, so you don’t have to take this seriously until you speak English fluently.

The Ridge Wallet, produced in 1944 as a last-ditch effort to stop the Allies, it was an immense but due to its low width it was deadly, bombers and attackers could not locate them as they were a titanium line of impending doom! loaded with Credit Card Round that would swipe even the strongest of frontal armor on any of the heaviest tanks! | In 1945 the crews of the Ridge Wallet were cramped and had back pain due to the poor conditions it offered for the crew, so the majority of crews ultimately lost to surrendering. | The Allies located the blueprints in a German Bunker and reconstructed the Ridge Wallet on a smaller scale, the 1950s came around and the US figured out how to make Credit Card Round, the whole US was swiping the heaviest of armor the ATMs prevailed for them, it was revolutionary!

@@CoolGobyFish the theory was it doesnt have to cross bridges if it can cross along the bottom (or in the case of the Ratte or Monster, is simply tall enough to cross any river without submerging). Turns out that doesnt work though because river beds are soft and when you're already fighting your enormous ground pressure to not get stuck on dry land, being underwater in a 100+ton steel box with no flotation gear is a death sentence. Fun Fact: during construction,the Maus had a soviet hammer and sickle on it to trick potential spies in the factory into thinking it was a captured tank

The rail one might be fastest one since you can just put more locomotives infront of it and it may would go 70kmh or more(that is fast for a 1000 metric ton piece of destruction) dependent of the rails and locomotives

"Some historians believe that if enough of them had been produced and deployed, maus tanks could have changed the outcome of WWII" German logistics, a lack of oil, allied air superiority and just going around the giant slow tank would suggest why its only some historians

Youd be surprised how good the tank was. Firstly, if it was deployed on the Western side it could easily crush through anything thrown at it, thanks to its huge armour. (Only to the Soviets it would have been a slight problem. Since the ISU with HE rounds could take it out). Second part is the "going around it", which would do nothing,byod be wasting time while the crew inside would be laughing at you. Thirdly the "drop a bomb" arguement on it. It could work but, if its unstoppable it can go right through enemy lines, opening up the possibility of massive friendly fire. The bomb would have to be huge to blow a crater in it and the bomb would have to effectively be dropped right on the tank. Put enough flak variants of this tank together with it and you effectively have a fortress, in a fortress. The flak cannons could blow up bombs as they are coming down while the original maus can focus on the land targets. All this is assuming if Germany didnt have any problems with logistics at near end of the war obviously
@idaboi8378
@idaboi8378 3 жыл бұрын
On the drop a bomb point, its slow as all hell. You're not gonna have a friendly fire incident. It wasnt unstoppable either. Its tracks are a huge target so immobilising the maus isn't going to be hard, making it an easy target for allied/soviet aircraft and heavy arty. On the "unstoppable" point. Lets assume the Germans deployed it and magically they were able to supply a proper panzer division and their famously terrible logistics wasn't a problem, it would just speed up allied development of better tanks and/or shells which they were doing anyways but as the war was already won they didnt have a need to. Also, given how much it weighed, good like getting over any river, so its certainly not getting to the western front anytime soon.

They should have just mass produced an efficient Pz. IV but up armored and an improved engine and transmission, some improved 7.5 cm guns for a new turret design, and better crew layout. Simple, have some lighter tanks and some heavier, some tank destroyers, and improvements added fittingly and maybe things would be better. Idk I’m not smart but thats what I would do
