In Kansas they do! All rivers and creeks are owned by the land owner except for rivers and creeks in public fishing areas and the KS river. On rivers that travel through private land, the property owner owns to the center of the river. You must get permission from the land owner to navigate the water or walk the bank/ fish.

Docbrew it’s not that simple. I worked for years to finally own a pond which I stocked and maintained. It’s mine and the public does not have the privilege to fish there even if they want to just fish. One time I drove up on my pond and a guy had 20 lines strung across the pond with numerous hooks. He told me he was fitting ready to have a fish fry for his family. I did t know the guy. The audacity of some people is limitless.

Private property also makes the owner liable for anyone getting hurt or injured. Private property means it is not open to public. If they catch and release it doesn’t matter. The trash they leave and the mess is always left to the owner to pick up. Your home is private property. Do you let people walk in and use your bathroom?

Shame that when you are open and welcoming the riff raff comes with it. Beer cans, soda bottles, paper trash … At 5:20 the kids admit they know they're not supposed to be fishing there. When you violate someone's private property you need to be ready to answer for it. My family owned a couple hundred acres of avocado land and the local kids loved to use our property to ride their dirt bikes. Tore the place up. When I confronted them they were all butt-hurt, Private is private for a reason. You may not like it, but there it is.
