I see it in hierarchical systems in general. Be that religion, or simply patriarchy, or the belief that children are property of parents without rights

I was spanked as a kid and when I have kids I am going to raise them in such a way that they can reason what might happen if they do something rather than teaching them that the consequences for undesired behaviour is violence
