The algorithm leads me here. Just wanna share my thoughts with the younger audiences here. Old Uncle me met my wife on dating website 15 years ago when i was 22. She's a filippina . We have two kids now. There's definitely huge differences between how relationships are defined and viewed nowaday compared to the past or at least during my time. Despite my studies in sexology, I'm truly surprised by how many more forms of relationships have been created and labelled in the past decade. Dating and relationships have evolved. My advice to the younger generation is- Despite the changes and surrounding noises (whether now or future), the most important when getting to know someone is to be upfront with your expectations and boundaries. Relationship only works if both parties are interested in a long term relationship. For me, I went a bit further, relationship only works if both have marriage in mind. Only then will you put in effort and even preserve to work through all difficulties that both of you encounter along the way. No relationship and marriage will be perfect. The dynamic will change as you move in together, involve families from both sides, and when you have kids etc. Things are going to get ugly at times. Your partner might say discouraging words to you, or even threaten you. But you just gonna work through those challenges together with communication. Not all issues can be resolved. You might need to compromise on a few matters. And you might even need to sacrifice a bit of yourself sometimes. But bear in mind that no one will really change alot over time. The reason why you feel people have changed is because your focus/ priority/ perspective of life has changed. You also amplify your partner's flaws too. You can only change yourself. You can't change others. That's what marriage and parenting are in reality.
