The seller wanting $21k for that 2015 Silverado with 130k miles is absolutely insane. No person in their right mind would pay that. Looked like a fairly base model LT too. I have a 2017 4x4 Silverado with almost 190k miles and I’d probably be lucky to get $10k.

I’ve got a 22’ Canyon Elevation with just under 13k on the odometer. Mint condition. One owner. KBB appraised it at between $32 and $34k trade in value and $34 to $36k private party. Insane. Carnax offered me $31k sight unseen. I said no way.

As a former recon manager that got cars ready for the auctions in central PA, (including Manheim), I am appalled at the condition that dealers show a car at this auction. A really good detailer with a good old steam extractor and standard cleaning could have made those cars look far better. People are complaining about how they can't get help. A lot of young men do this as a hobby. Get some talent--pay them good and you have detailers for hire. Kids used to do that with the high-end (Audi, Porsche, Saab, Volvo, and Exotics) & these kids (back in the day) had beepers and a portfolio of their work in big binders. They charged high rates because the managers waited until the weekend to call or needed it done yesterday. It worked out for them and a few bought duplexes & then flipped them. Smart kids.
@bobwallace9814
@bobwallace9814 Жыл бұрын
I agree with a thorough recon. I've attended the Manheim in Dallas a hundred times but this auction shown here is much much smaller and attended by those with buy here pay here lots ( tote the note). No franchise dealer buys anything that has a salvage title. These cars will be noted out and repo'd and noted out and repo'd again and again for a big profit. Any repairs needed will be added to the customer's note. They have their own in house mechanic/recon guy.

If I owned a new car dealership - 1) advertise out the door prices and sell them for that. Have a menu board for extended warranty (cost plus $500) and other items customer can choose from. I would have another menu board showing service hourly rates AND what mechanics are paid per hour. Rates would be below market and pay would be above market. I’d sell more cars and attract better/loyal mechanics. I’d make great profit through volume AND be respected in the community. Honesty sells. Take care of the customer and they will take care of the profits.

I would never buy a salvaged car after having accidentally bought one many years ago. It had been in a wreck and was totaled by the insurance company. It was then sent to a sale where someone bought it, 'repaired' it, and sold it, somehow, with a clean title. I tried it out and it was nice, and it drove straight and true - for the test drive. I bought it and went home, but before I made it home 30 miles away, the alignment went out, and it was riding rough. The frame had been bent in the accident, and it was never going to be a good car no matter how pretty it looked. I got lucky that the dealer helped me replace it with something else, but that came close to being a very expensive mistake at a time in my life I couldn't afford such mistakes. The other thing about 'salvage' titles, and even 'rebuilt', I believe, is that insurance companies don't want to insure them, and if they do, they jack their already nuts monthly premiums up even higher.

Recently gotten several email offers where all they focus on is your payment. So far mostly Ford. They have the numbers on your current vehicle, offer you something less and talk about payment savings. Of course its all BS. So many ppl out there falling for this gimmick having no idea what kind of numbers they are screwing you with. Just make the payment affordable. I emailed back listing several reasons why I was a hard no. The vehicle was 3 trims down from what I have, the price was 5k to high, the interest rate was more then double, and it was 84 months. Not to mention Ford quality is very questionable. That email was sent last week, crickets.

I noticed one car had scratches on the leather seats in the butt area. Cut off any back facing zipper handles on your cargo type pants etc. Whoever thought putting zippers back there did not try to drive a car with leather seats for long. I never / rarely use these zippers any way and if they wreck my car's driver's seat, I don't want them. The smarter pant designers use velcro in these areas.

Got some good deals and some crap cars. But I always had fun and some of my old buddies went along with me, just for fun. They were hooked!!!! LOL! Thanks for showing us auction prices and dealer sale prices. Good stuff to know and you all know what’s going on out there in CAR DEALER LAND. Stay safe and please keep filming for us regular folks.

I used to work at a Carmax in Kenosha, WI--it was one of the larger stores that originally had 9 lines of new vehicles in addition to the usual used ones. The back lot was several acres so, in addition to retailing cars we also used it for Carmax wholesale auctions. I would frequently drive the vehicles for the auctions and I saw a very wide variety of cars in various states of cleanliness and repair/disrepair. Sometimes there were vehicles that went through that were surprisingly nice--there was an early 1980s Jeep Cherokee that had about 150k miles that felt like it was brand new--it had fewer rattles than the average new Chevy of that era (late 1990s.) There were also the bad ones---the worst that I drove was an Olds Cutlass Ciera that was so filthy that I had to put towels on the seat due to unidentified fluids. The headliner was also loose and the prior owner was a frequent user of Pomaide. I put one of the towels on my head. It was like one of those cars you see near homeless encampments but with the rags and garbage removed.

man i love these cheap cars. this is the way to go. get used to some occasional $500 repairs yearly but it's so much cheaper to own and operate vs a new one. not for everyone, but that's a good thing for those of us who can afford a new car, but prefer NOT to go that route. I make 78K and i'm daily driving a 2000 diesel jetta. love it. no payments and costs like $150/mo in fuel

this is the result of $33trillion in debt, starting as many foreign wars as possible and in general pissing off most of the world. this is soros favorite game- crashing economies. inflation will continue to rise, along with interest rates. car makers are gearing for huge production drops as 2030 looms ahead, they are switching to fewer more expensive vehicles - a industry wide drawdown. the idea being that only rich people will have cars.

I like the way you edited this video. No doubt this was a lot more work, so you probably won't do it every time, but it was a nice change. I appreciate seeing some vehicles at 100k and under - a range most of us would probably be considering. If possible, I would still like to know the trim levels, however, and if the trucks or SUVs are 2wd or 4wd. Base level trim vs high-end trim, and 2wd vs 4wd, these are things that can make a big difference in price. Words are hard, but this is only a few more. 😆 That said, still very appreciative of these videos and a chance to see what dealers are paying for their vehicles. Thank you. 🙂

Someone has got to have the ability to do a price increase trend line starting with all the way back in 2005 to 2010 and then each year's increase there on. My 'loaded' 2011 Tacoma OR, purchased right when the gen 2.5 refresh was coming out, was $29500. There were no vanity options aside from the TX Pro and the Baja, which is now the overprice TRD Pro lineup. That same configuration, with no moonroof, no power seat, and 'nicer' cloth seats is now $42k before getting into a TRD OR Premium line. Toyota back in 2011 simply stated they were going to raise prices by $500 a year... 12 years of price increases is $6000, not $10000+!!

@19mychannel

Dealers only or have a buddy who is a dealer let you in on a guest pass if the local auction allows it. Plus, you'll be telling your buddy how much you're willing to spend plus fees on top of the base price. Also, a good thing to know is there are literally no warranties for the most part, even if it ran at green light or ride and drive or dirve train guaranteed. That being said, if you come across a lemon you liked but it's the day after the sale or even the same day evening afterward, and you didnt know it was bad then your stuck with that car. That being said, most dealers won't even bring their friends to an auction because if the friend backs out, they'll be stuck with a unit they didn't want in the 1st place. unless some sort of contract is written that makes you buy that car no matter what the case may be.
