They debuted in 2013. This song is about how they would have their first death when music no longer makes sense to them. About losing a passion and lose a part of who you are in the process

They're talking about what it feels like when something you always loved (like making music in their case) doesn't bring you joy anymore and that that feeling is like dying. They quoted a dancer in the other Black Swan MV where it said “A dancer dies twice-once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful.” When you lose passion for what you do, it is like dying inside and a lot of creative people can relate to that. They wrote this song during a time when they got so famous they felt like they weren't doing music just for the music anymore, but for the fans and the industry.

They debuted officially in 2013....but were training for quite a while before that. It helps that they live together and are together constantly...helps them be one unit. They are all very close personally, so that also helps with the unity. Right now their ages go from 23 to 29, I believe.

The guys have said that the song is about Jimin, he's the Black Swan. As you noticed, they dance hard and this year, they'll celebrate their 8th anniversary. This song and video are from part of a series based on Carl Jung called "Map of the Soul", about integrating different parts of the psyche into one whole. One of those parts of the psyche is "shadow". That's the unwanted parts of yourself, aspects that you have denied or buried for one reason or another. They aren't always negative, either. The thing is, they're always a part of you and you can't be whole until you learn to accept them. That's where the shadows come in during the video. Jimin has always been first and foremost a dancer but he has chronic pain and physical issues and there will come a time when he will no longer be able to dance. With his chronic issues, that time will come a lot sooner than it should for a 25-year-old.

This is just my personal take on the song. According to my research, a Black Swan signifies about an insight of oneself. It is a reminder to move away from that sense of powerlessness and reclaim that power. BTS has been around 7 years going 8 in June. As an artist, they have always been passionate and driven. However, they probably had moments at one point wherein they were questioning themselves and trying to seek the meaning in what they are doing. Jin, even mentioned in an award show that they considered disbanding and to think that they were already big at the time. Thankfully, they pulled themselves together and continued to soar higher. So in this song, basically, is them talking about a hypothetical moment when they could no longer feel the passion and drive in what they are doing; or when they lose the excitement in performing or making music. As what the lyrics said, if that time comes, it would feel like their first death.

Even though the song talks about fear of losing passion, if you watch the dance practice they really go all out and it's obvious this means a lot to them
