In today's video I'm trying to buy cars from BCA, via their online bidding platform. I think prices are going to be high and they are but can I still manage to get a couple of bits of stock?

I think there's another major reason for expensive cheaper cars. People needing to go back into the secondhand market due to ending their lease on a new car. In the factory where I work, the car park used to be full of new Focus, Kuga, A3, Golf's, BMWs and Mercs on lease for circa £2-300 pm. Now due to higher leasing costs, those vehicles are now nearly double what they were, hence the car park now looks like your sales pitch, full of 3-8 year old cars! I think the market will soon be awash with delivery mileage new cars as the manufacturers won't be able to sell them. Anyway, just my observation. Cheers 👍👍

Too many traders masquerading as private “Marketplace” sellers, who are happy to make a small profit as they have no overhead or warranty issues! They don’t pay tax or prep properly either.

@@chrism2567As an owner of a couple of Porsche, I agree with you. I reckon I’ve lost somewhere between 10 and 15K in value this year on both. Higher end car prices are sliding. Great for new buyers, and as I was one once, I don’t begrudge it.

@@chrism2567 there are cars up to 80k at my auction, I must admit a Porsche, booked at 55K clean only had a sub bid of 50K, but being an 09 plate it did seem to be overbooked, Q5 and Q3 booked at around 20K, normally make overs. I don't think there is a shortage of money in London, where are lotof the buyers come from.

i owned a successful secondhand car dealership 30 years ago ,glad i retired, i see nothings really changed high prices, small margins and the VAT and there all the reasons i got out and do not regret it.

with the sale of prestige cars crashing the dealers who normally deal with those cars are now going for the cheaper end of the market pushing up prices at the low end

I always advise ppl looking for a car for around 2.5 or 3k is just go to an auction yourself and cut out the middle man as they will always try and keep as much margin in it as possible so you might aswell buy it yourself and use all that margin getting it right and more. in the current climate that may be an issue your facing

Coolant level below minimum would be a red flag for me. Cars shouldn’t really lose any coolant. Could be a dodgy pipe? Could be a new radiator? Could be head gasket issue?

A very useful tool is vehicle score. Been using it a lot, and you can dismiss a lot of rubbish cars quickly.

The live beyond your means finance/klarna everything from your UberEats, ASOS order to a 'luxury' car masses are feeling the pinch & reverting to the old norm after the boom era pre & post covid. Especially in build up to another potentially cold winter with sky high bills/mortgage repayments. It ain't easy chief, I'd say the market is priced well if not ahead of the curve.

13-14 year 88k old cars on forecourts for £3995 vs 5 year old 70-80k miles cars at the supermarkets for £8500 ie you can get a 68 S60 diesel for £8-8500 retail. Twice the money more than twice the car

Great video joe and must be a little worrying with the wsy higher end cars are going but it also means that maybe those dealers like yourself are looking at cheaper cars which is pushing those prices up,hole it doesn't have to much of an affect on you🙂👍

Joe…..I also had a Mokka with the same issue with the windows. It was the spare remote …….the unlocking button was faulty, so whenever you got close to the car, windows went down.

I think the trouble is that people bid them for so much. Everyone is just looking for a quick buck but that push the market price up. Do people want that,no. Often I see bids for car with estimated market price being sold for almost what's worth before repair. Madness.

I would not have touched that first car with someone else's bargepole. Failed nearly every MOT back to at least 2015 with a follow-up pass (for simple things like light bulbs) suggests to me an owner who never laid a finger on it from one year to the next. I wouldn't bet against a complete lack of servicing and all that implies. Those are the vehicles to run away from.

Been in the business nearly 40 years, still go to independents Auctions and buy private online, BCA, Manheim, Aston Barclay, if you want convenience and lots of choice you going to have to pay their prices ! never do the trade any favours, BCA won't get my money thats for sure.

I used to attend BCA Paddock Wood, it was always a good day out and usually, I came home with a car or two. The last one I paid £100 plus fees, so about £120. It was a bright red VW Jetta on an X plate, yep, 1982 with 61k warranted mileage. Only a 4 speed gearbox though, but I did 5000 miles and sold it for £450. I don't suppose such deals are to be had these days.

l did a vehicle score check on a late 2018 68 plate Discovery with 320,000 miles on the clock so it had done some serious leg and had spent its life as a highways agency vehicle on the motorway. the vehicle score was 999 Top Marks Yearly Miles: Very High Mileage: Very High but they still gave it top score which l found strange

Evening Joe My colleague at work Pat from Kent bought a newer Jag, he is selling his other Jag. I advised him cars bought for more are the best people to contact. He told me today Friday he has spoken to cars bought for more and sent pictures of his Jag. I told him about KZfaq shifting metal, and he watched the video on my Mondeo you bought from auction Hope you strike a deal, He is up for filming two Jags' side would be a nice video. Regards Mark

Have tried Vehicle Score. When Reg entered, it just diverts to the ultimate report and asks for payment? No free basic score available?????

Just make sure you click on the vehicle score logo and it should take you to the score page, not the ‘check’ page 👍

Cheap cars at auction that’s for sure. If you’re looking for a crossland at auction best thing to do is ask how many sales it’s done and then try and do a really cheap deal on it

I appreciate it’s a very general question but if you buy something for £1600 and you retail it at £3k - because you have work to do / warranties/vat and you deserve a profit etc what would be a fair price for a private retail? If that makes sense?

All dealers like this want is pay little as possible make maximum profits overprice them do little or nothing to them. Apart from a £15 koso mini valet.Get it to Their maté’s garage to put 12 months ticket on it then sell you a overpriced warranty what’s not worth the paper it wrote on. My friends daughter bought a car from a conman dealer last week all the shocks were faulty, the rear windows didn’t work she to it back the next day and they said it’s all ware n tare

@@ShiftingMetal 2010 fiesta with 109 k made £1800 plus fees in auction ! I don’t see any profit in the car , same night 2016 1.5 diesel 93 k 5 door got a provisional bid of £2600 ( probably £3000 reserve ) to many car dealers to little stock …

For a £2K car you are paying £528 on top in Fee's and the Cinch monkeys have been all over it for hours so it will have faults !!

I tried to register with BCA but it’s trade only, though I suppose there’s not much to stop you just selecting ‘sole trader’ and registering anyway… Certainly tempting prices if you’re willing to risk the no warranty etc.

BCA is trade only, you will need to show proof ie trade plates or traders insurance policy
