This reminds me so much of October 1978! Myself and my new girlfriend drove to Blackpool and the weather was atrocious! Storm force winds and the sea looked so angry. The tide was completely in, smashing right into the sea wall. This was at the North pier end of the promenade where there are three different tiers going right down to the sea wall itself. Many people were stood on the top tier but we were young and in love….and crazy! We went all the way to the bottom tier where the huge waves were crashing into the sea wall and were sending huge amounts of spray high into the air. As we looked out to sea we could see a huge roller coming towards us; it seemed to be as tall as a skyscraper. We watched, hypnotised by its sheer awesome power and beauty, until it smashed into the wall below us. As we both looked up, all we could see was what seemed to be thousands of gallons of water! We closed our eyes and waited for the inevitable! We were drenched! As if we had jumped into a swimming pool. Happy days! Ps I know it was October 1978 because I still have the passport size picture with the date on the back that we took in one of those booths that used to be along the promenade. We looked like two drowned rats!😂

Great video Steve, thanks for going out in the rain to show us the wonderful high tide. I am well dissapointed I missed it. Went down to see the high tide on Monday. According to the tide chart I use, it was 10.1 metres, but the sea was like glass (very calm). No wind, no waves. Even though the tide was high, it just barely reached the steps by the railings. 9.5 metre tide on Thursday a bit better than Monday, nice but again, no waves, not that exciting.

You were very Brave standing near the Shore line. Really did enjoy your video Steve. Did you get yourself a new Winter coat Steve? It looks really Good quality and it will keep you warm and dry. It’s great to see these high tides but I’m glad Im not out in it. For me a Blackpool Tram isn’t a tram unless it’s one of the heritage fleet, so much more character haven’t they but no doubt a nightmare to maintain.

Tuesday lunchtime had an even higher tide, 10.5m at Fleetwood, just about as high as they get! Today's was only 10.3m but had more wind behind it. Anyway, if we're going to have crap weather, might as well have an impressive tide to look at!

How do the old structures holding up Blackpool's three piers survive such batterings? As a child watching shows on the central pier in the 1960's, early 70's I always feared the thing collapsing and that was 50 odd years ago. What's it like now I wonder?!!
