You can dip match heads in melted paraffin to make water proof matches and fire paste is cheaper if you just use Vaseline or Crisco. Same result. And Vaseline can be used for wounds and Crisco can be used for cooking.

One trick to use is to hold the hand with the striker still and draw the ferro rod backwards. Helps to make a more accurate aim of the sparks.

This was actually quite interesting, especially the metal match and water bottle. The paste could actually be a replacement for dry/waterproof tinder, though maybe more fragile and with a shelf-life?
