Thermocol is made of polystyrene, which is a long chain of carbons that has a phenyl (benzene, C6H6) group coming attached to every other carbon (so on carbon 1,3,5 etc.). It's molecular formula is (C8H8)n, where n is a big number since it's a polymer (many molecules chained together). Petrol (gasoline) is mixture of hydrocarbons with the formula C(n)H(2n+2). Usually the molecules have 8 carbons (or so), so we can just say its formula is C8H18. So when petrol and thermocol mix, no reaction happens. BUT, the thermocol will dissolve in the petrol. Like kar do !!!

Thermocol is a covalent compound and a covalent compound is soluble in non polar solvent (petrol). That's simple reason why thermocol get dissolved. 😁😁

*During reaction, Polystryene Polymer (Thermocoal) dissolve in Petrol (genrally alkanes with other gases). As the bond form between petrol and polystrene is more stable, the polymer of polystrene start dissociating their chains and polystrene dissolve in petrol. The reaction would form a gummy lump which is adhesive in nature.*

Sir , jaise mercury or gold ke reaction mein mercury and gold amulgum banta hai , waise hi iska petroleum glue banta hai kyonki alcohol thermocol ko melt kar deta hai . Thermocol ki quantity zyada hone par uske remins alcohol glue mein badal jate hain aur petroleum glue banate hain . Thank you

Thermocol is basically Polystyrene derivative and it is a non polar compound So it must Get dissolve in Organic non polar solvent such as petrol or Acetone...
