For the last year I’ve been spraying brake cleaner on the hitch and tow ball before every tow, seems to help.

This video was perfect timing, the wife said I can hear something like a dog barking in the back of the car, are dog was asleep so that’s ruled out, open the windows and could hear it better, yes the tow hitch, all pads need cleaning, or replacing ?, great tip with the drill Graham 👍

Timely video - Mines started doing this as well, will have to pop the pads out when home in a couple of weeks to see the state of them.

I now think it’s my tow ball, as it’s new and I don’t think it did it with the GLC

@@CaravanVlogger - mine started after 3 weeks away in Northumberland and Scotland so gave the tow ball a good clean and still getting the squeaking. Now away without any tools so will wait until I’m home to check the pads

I had the same problem with my caravan when it was only 3 months old! You should be careful when removing and re-fitting the pads as there is a small O ring that sits inside the hole the pads pass through which can break or become dislodged when replacing. There are also shims you can add when the pads are wearing

We have a similar issue, when we tow our caravan with the Freelander 2, on a very clean swan neck detachable tow ball, it creaks like an old man. When we use the Ranger on a fixed clean tow ball, it’s silent.

I have same issue. Have also done same as you. When I am under 80kg on nose I don’t get it but that’s leaving me a bit light as really need min of 90kg. Couldn’t work out if it was hitch, ball or suspension. Sounds the same as you so am guessing it’s hitch

what do you do if you have no shims and teh handle is still too tight to clamp down please?

I’d check that you have the right pads. Some are a bit longer, so it would prevent you from pushing the handle down easily. Other than that, check with your dealer

I don't have the part number. I just ordered "AL-KO 2004/3004 Side Friction Pad Kit" assuming you have Stabiliser coupling AKS 3004.
