It's what the internet does best. Gathers passionate enthusiasts that not only want to share but need to. That instinctive requirement to help,to aide, to make a total stranger's life that little bit easier is truly inspiring. This guy is one of the rare few that not only keep the net alive and kicking but shows the way for others to follow with his attention to detail and going that extra mile. Thank you Tom .

Never really comment on videos, but I have to just say thank you so much. I ordered an Ender 3 from the Woot sale on a whim and proceeded to go on a crash course trying to learn as much as I could before the printer arrived. Saw so many videos, read so many tutorials, and yours were the most concise and informative. Got the printer assembled in a little over an hour and had it leveled 20 minutes after that. Couldn't have done it without your video. Thank you.

First I want to say I am new to this. It seems every time I have an issue, I watch your videos and my problem gets solved. This comment is for new builders. I followed your build to a t and the First Test dog print was perfect. By the way I also watched your bed level vid. It is a must see for a newbie. Then I print the fan cover. It is almost perfect but at the end it under extruded. Still usable. I now run my third print and disaster. After two days of videos and no printing I figured it out. The gear on the extruded motor came loose and slid down causing no extrusion. I figured this out watching your under extrusion videos. Bottom line when building it I recommend everyone check those screws on the extrusion gear. You may have mentioned it in the video but just in case. Thanks for all the help you guys are awesome. 😎

Great insight! I just set this up and printed my first test dog in .gcode and it came out great. I'm now trying to print a second (the fan cover) which is posted in .stl format but it is not being recognized off the SD Card. Any advice for a fellow novice? Sounds like you didn't run into this...

I just got my Ender 3 printer 2 weeks ago. (its my first printer) I followed the instructions and had no issue putting it together... Or so I thought. My print quality was as good as any I have seen online. I found your video on the Facebook Ender 3 group and watched it. I remember having a little bit of fitment issues with the X-carriage being a little snug. I just finished taking it back apart and following your video instruction exactly. - THANK GOD I DID! It runs sooooo much smother, and the z-axis is so much smoother. VERY worth doing again. - AWESOME VIDEO and new Subscriber!

Great video. Like most guys who consider themselves handy I just plowed on in and started the build but quickly ran into questions, such as "why is the Z stop switch not at 32 mm" Your video answered this question and more. great tip to set the Eccentric nuts before assembly. I had to tweek one after I had built the machine and it was a lot more difficult to get access. Keep up the good work. :-)

Something that I would add as a first step is to make sure that your base is level (not the bed). The base of my Ender 3 had a slight wobble when placed on a flat surface. So I loosened the bolts on each side and squared it up before tightening the bolts back down. Then I continued with your tutorial. Thanks for the great video.

@NorthernKitty
@NorthernKitty 4 жыл бұрын
Mine wasn't level, either, but when Tomb didn't cover it, I thought maybe it would simply square up when I placed the final bar at the top. That actually did the trick - no more wobble - so I didn't think any more about it. But now I'm thinking maybe I'll go back and loosen those bolts just enough to take any possible stress off, then tighten up the frame again with everything square. Thanks for making this point.

I bought an Ender 3 a few days ago and used this video to assemble my printer. Let me just say that I used this video exclusively to build the printer, and I built it with zero issues. Thank you for the tips on how to level the X-axis right at the beginning - I can see how troublesome this would have been if I had to level it later with everything attached. Used your tips for the wheels and tightening the bolts to correct leveling issues and the printer works like a champ. I don't know how good many extra hours I would have needed to configure the Ender without watching you video. In all, it took me an hour and a half to setup (even with a few mistakes...I installed one of the vertical rails backwards). Thank you, Tom. You got a sub from me.

Just wanted to say thanks for this great video. After building a quarter of my Ender3 from the single page instructions, I ended up taking it apart and following this video step-by-step. I've just done my first print and it's looking great. One thing I noticed was that when building, no matter what I did, I couldn't get the two vertical aluminium extrusions to be exactly the same measurement at the top as at the bottom. I even got an adjustable set square to check that I'd got them at a perfect 90 degrees in all directions. Maybe you're at the mercy of how accurately the aluminium has been cut. It seemed to all come right when I added the top extrusion.

Thanks a bunch. Still had some jiggling minor stuff while putting it together but you helped a bunch. After having to mess with the bed leveling (thank you for other video) I went and printed the fan shroud you suggested (thank you for yet another video) that turned out good on draft setting in Cura. Printed two fun peices overnight, and am now doing up the cable chain. Only thing left to do now is fiddle with the settings to get decent minis and terrain. Thanks to you and others in the community for answering noob questions, writing tutorials, and making vids. As my experience level grows I lool forward to the example of others and paying it forward.

Agreed, he means the screws you just put into the rod to attach it to the x-axis assembly. So you need to take the new part back off the Y-axis rail to re-tighten/adjust.

This guide helped me get from 0 to printing benchies in one night, it was super helpful! I found that a small level was a great help in getting the vertical posts aligned correctly, in addition to the other checks recommended in the video. This and the rail wheel tensioning were IMO the trickiest parts of the build, and they were not mentioned in the official documentation, so I'm glad was video was there to help me out!

Really outstanding job on this. All the wisdom of an engineer’s perspective, but well articulated in common language. My first ever print is in progress and looking amazing. It’s a mind blowing world we live in; thanks for making this that much more accessible. One tip- when installing the vertical rails and getting them to sit parallel with the X axis, I took it a step further and placed one of the horizontal rails centered at the end of the vertical rail, with the assembly still on its side, parallel to the base. This acts like a winding stick and you look at it straight on from a few steps back, this greatly embellishes any twist and helped me dial it in to well under a degree very quickly and without any additional tools.

This is super helpful. Thank you so much for this video! I recently ordered the Ender 3 Pro, but from what I understand the assembly is like 99% the same. I truly appreciate you taking the time to not only explain the steps, which we can get in the manual anyway, but more importantly the tips and things to look out for AND how to fix them.

I'm two prints in and my Ender 3 pro has been great. I think these instructions are worth their weight in gold. Feels like more than anything I gathered from this is that you want to double check everything for plum & level which might be loosening a few bolts, making adjustments & tightening them up several times over. But it's worth it. Only thing I'd add to this video is that if you have a level around the house, would hurt to have this next to you as you're building it. Makes for easy checking on a lot of these rails.

Could not have done it without the excellent help in this video. Everything went smoothly, would recommend you draw a line with a pencil on the plate while aligning the header bar parallel to the base to use as a guide to tighten the 2 screws. We screwed the bar down to where the motor plate could be used to measure equal height on both sides, drew a pencil line and things worked much better. We used Vibratite thread locker on some of the assembly after cleaning all the bolts 1st to ensure things would not come loose later. Found the machine screws quite dirty from factory as well as the worm gear. After cleaning we applied a thin layer of white lithium grease to the gear threads. Thank you to all who posted and for the excellent tips on a better setup, provided in this video. 1st class !!

Thanks for your help and experience. I put my Ender-3 together yesterday. This wasn't my first, or even second printer kit build, but it's always nice to see it done and pick up the valuable hints ahead of time. I followed your build step by step, spending a lot of time getting the left and right pillars straight and untwisted. I measured the bottom and the top and adjusted several times. Originally, the difference was 5mm, but I got it down to practically nothing. Then I got to the part where the top brace is attached. There is almost no play in the holes drilled in that extrusion. It needed me to pull the pillars almost 5mm (hmmm) closer in order for the screws to enter the tapped portion. I reversed the build (x-axis rollers, etc. back to the attach-bottom-of-pillars part and was able to re-position them so all went back together aligned. I bring this up in order to wonder if it would be better to attach the top brace, temporarily; loosely, as you position, align and secure the side pillars. Since that brace appears, at least in my kit, to be less forgiving. maybe it would be better to use that as the measurement source. One other issue I had with my kit that appears different from yours and others: Creality must be listening. Instead of the print bed wheels' eccentric nuts being loose, mine were tight. Very tight. Could-barely-move-the-bed tight. Worse, the v-wheels now had flat spots and the bed thumped in a couple of places when it was moved. They've recovered a little, after being released, but I'll probably want to replace them - I'll need to monitor the build quality with that in mind. So, Creality: Better to have them shipped a little loose than to risk ruining the wheels. Another, minor, problem: The Bowden tube was horribly packed and arrived permanently kinked in several places; a minor issue since I'd intended to replace it anyway. My Ender-3 is now assembled and has printed the test dog perfectly. I'm going to name him Skippy. :) Again, thanks for your videos - they help tremendously. You have one new subscriber.

Thanks for the tips!! Just an FYI, at 24:00 (and earlier) and 26:53, you talk about how to mount the nuts. I'm used to using Unistrut, which has similar nuts. Based on how it works, and according to the Ender 3 Pro manual, the nuts should be rotated 90 degrees from how you've installed them, once they are finally tightened. This ensures that they grip onto the extrusion properly. It was pretty easy to get the nuts for the filament holder to rotate, but in some other instances, I had to slide the assembly on, with the nuts at 90 degrees.
@NorthernKitty
@NorthernKitty 4 жыл бұрын
Oddly, it was the filament holder that gave me the problem that the nuts wouldn't rotate in. I had to place them at the 90 degree angle then slowly lower and tighten the bolts into them. All other places they rotated into place as I tightened them. Guess it just goes to show how every machine can behave differently.

Basically don't do 20:20 that gets your bed terribly misaligned. Doing this put it off by more than 1 degree, almost 2 degrees, in the OPPOSITE direction of where it was already slightly tilting. The 2nd carriage gives support and weight, so whatever alignment you've made without it will be worthless once it's put on. I fixed this misaligned by taking it off, and making sure I pushed together the 3 carriages as much as possible, and tightened their screws. Once on the two rails I loosened one carriage a little ans pushed them apart a little again until it was leveled. To get the Z axis straight I also needed to give it support a little above the screws, so that I don't have to push the rod much to get it into the hole.

I'd like to add a piece of advice: I couldn't have the same distance between the top and the bottom of the extrusions, I solved this by turning 180 degrees the left extrusion, this took me to a 1 mm difference between top and bottom. (I'm talking about the process that starts around minute 8:00 through min 12:00).

Thanks for this, it was helpful, but I have several improvements I'll list below: 1. At 7:50 first thing to do here is level the base, mine rocked up and down on 2 corners, so make sure your frame base is level ( I just twisted it a little in my hands by pushing 1 side and pulling the other. 2. At 8:14 leave this lid loose until much later, after we plumb and level everything. 3. At 9:00 use this bracket at the top of the sides (small clamps to hold it in place if you have them) 4. 12:00 When adjusting these nuts on the wheel carriages, make sure you do them on the correct side and correct direction (you are probably just doing this for camera angle purposes, I did it your way at first, then later discovered the carriage that went on the other side didn't fit the same) 5. At 14:09 Leave LCD part off, this will be the last part you want to install, and plug the ribbon cable in before attaching (the screen just gets in the way now and at risk of having screws or parts dropped on it later while you put other parts on above it) 6. At 16:00 plug in the Z-wire coming up from the base before attaching this piece to the frame 7. At 17:20 DO NOT tighten the motor to the frame, just snug for now (we'll tighten these screws once frame is plumb and level) 8. At 17:40 DO NOT tighten the Z-rod lead screw, once you eyeball it so that it is plumb to the frame both front-to-back and left-to-right , then just snug the screw in the coupling for the Z-rod (we will tighten fully after frame is level and plumb) 9. At 18:38 DO NOT tighten screws fully, just nicely snug so that it is not loose but can move when we adjust it on frame during leveling/plumbing process 10. At 19:34 DO NOT loosen these screws at ANY time, always leave them tight. 11. At 19:54 DO NOT do this part yet, we need to jump ahead 12. At 20:50 DO NOT put the belt on yet! we need to jump ahead 13. At 21:05 Make sure the hotend is facing the correct way, and the wires/tube is not twisted up 14: At 23:19 DO NOT tighten the screws fully, just very snug for now 15. Now back up to step 11 above, at 19:54 do a dry fit now that it has all the wheel carriages and extruder attached Do not lower this assembly more than an inch or two on the Z-rod lead screw. At 20:00 to 20:22 do not use the spool bracket to level, instead use the top part of the frame, it is much taller and will save you a lot of time as you level and plumb this the the frame sides. After getting it level, carefully remove the assemble and tighten the screws which hold the left and right wheel carriages, but not fully tight, you want to repeat this process a few times until you get the horizontal assembly as level as possible (I had to repeat this process 4 times until it was level). Once you are level, tighten the screws holding the left and right wheel carriages fully, and place the assembly back onto the frame and Z-rod lead screw. 16. Attach the top of the frame, seen at 26:00 17. Now tighten the the screws holding the Z motor to the frame 18. Now tighten the screw holding the Z-rod lead screw inside the coupling 19. Now tighten the screws holding the lid over the board 20. Now install the belt and the tension adjuster 21. Plug in all of the cables that are in the rear 22. Plug the LCD screen ribbon in to the LCD part 23. Screw the LCD part to the frame.

Your extra step at about 20:35; I've found that when adjusting the two bolts holding the wheel cart to the horizontal X extrusion, it seems to be better to just screw in one of those at first, then you can adjust the X extrusion while it's on the Y axis using that spacer. It leaves out having to guess the adjustment and having to put it on and off again and again. Just have to be careful not to bump it when taking the X extrusion off the Y axis. Then put in that 2nd screw at the corrected adjustment. I think I've got it pretty much perfect with this method.

Had the same problem yesterday bruh, that video is pure gold! Also, a lot of the "upgrades" on thingiverse actually worsen the performance quite a lot over time, they were 1 of a couple reasons for bad prints in my case. Watch out for them z axis "stabilizers" and extruder mounts for the popular cable chain. They, most of the time, worsen the functionality and the play of the z lead screw.
