3D Models for Adobe Dimension
bit.ly/37Xg8LC
This video is for designers who are unfamiliar with 3D software and looking for a tool to mock up scenes and graphic design. Adobe Dimension is a simpler interface to use and consistent with its series of Illustrator and Photoshop programs versus having to learn a new 3D interface and shortcuts. If you already know how to use a 3D program, then please skip this video. You'll get a much better quality rendering from a 3D program if you're savvy.
*Also, yes, I apologize - I recorded this late one evening and I have two young children, so my voice is especially low and monotone.
0:00 Use a reference photo & draw the left half of the container in Illustrator
2:50 Paste the vector object into Photoshop
3:08 Go to 3D, New 3D Extrusion from Selected Layer
3:25 Use the preset to revolve around the right side axis
4:00 Adjust the Extrusion Depth to not quite 0 (make sure there's no hole)
8:55 If container has multiple parts, merge 3D layers to keep objects together
9:14 In Properties panel, check box to remove hidden Backfaces
9:25 Export 3D layer as .OBJ
9:50 In Dimension, import your .OBJ
10:10 'F' key will center your imported object into view
10:25 Select each part and add materials and/or decals
16:25 Bonus - add liquid to the container

I'm seeing a lot of similar comments -- If you already know how to use a 3D program, then please skip this video. You'll get a much better quality rendering from a 3D program if you understand the interface, lighting & rendering settings. Adobe Dimension is a simpler interface to use and consistent with its series of Illustrator and Photoshop programs versus having to learn a new 3D interface and shortcuts. I used to mockup a lot of bottles boxes etc. simply importing works from ai to ps as smart layer and then warping to place is way faster workflow if u dont want to mess 3D programs. But please just use a dedicated 3D software if when u want mess with 3d, its just less painfull and less time consuming. Just give your self a week for learning blender its free and looks complicated but actually pretty easy. You can thank me later.

Thank you! Yes, agree - it's certainly a challenge to keep up with and know what to learn that's going to stay around for awhile. Adobe Dimension has a user-friendly interface but I'm finding limitations with rendering out a clear decal image. It does great with its own material library and the finishes (glass) I've tried. Will keep experimenting and post any revelations :) Thanks for the feedback!

Thank you so much for your work and taking time to post this. My only gripe is that the audio is so low in comparison to other random youtube videos that after watching this, the next video I watched was blasting through my speakers. Please inbox me or reply. There is a specific thing that you can do to all of your videos that will make your audio pop out. I've been producing audio for 20 years and I can assure you there will be no clipping, no distortion, just clear and loud with your vocals evenly limited. Turning up the volume vs what I'm talking about is two different things btw. Really hope you reply you will love the results. The difference will be night and day!

Hi Khalil, thanks for commenting. Yes, I have the same issues also with graphic decals. I believe this is a common issue that will hopefully improve with development of the program. I take the rendering back into photoshop and place the graphic on the object again to make it much sharper. It’s an unfortunate repetition to have to do. Might make a video on that process.

@@naharemet8284 Indeed. I just don't see why people dispend so much time and effort just to criticize someone who is trying to share some knowledge. For free, by the way. This pipeline that she shares is just one option between a lot of others. Probably will be usefull for someone who does not have time to study another software... I use Blender, Zbrush, C4D, Softimage XSI, and I don't think could be better or worst... it's just another option. Thanks Ashley again for share knowledge and not to be a useless critical.

@@JamesVaccari i dont disagree that this is just another workflow i think the reason that people are criticizing is it looks plain out painfull. its just that the speed photoshop moves at is so slow its more than enough time to learn blender or any other 3d application (except for houdini).

This is so cool! Do you have any knowledge on how to create liquid inside the bottle, so that it can also be changed in dimension too?
@ashleycam3ron
@ashleycam3ron 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think the liquid depends on the shape of the container and fill level for how flexible it is to resize. At 16:36 where I created the liquid, if I didn't make the neck shape in the liquid and if it were just a cylinder, you could select the liquid layer in dimension and change the height. At this point I'm not thinking of another way. I'm continuing to learn and explore what's possible. They seem to be working on updates and new functionality, too.
